Good luck too James, Farmer is nothing spectacular so Tennyson has every shot at pulling off the upset

It's great that all these British fighters, Tennyson , McDonnell and Johnson are all getting stateside world championship shots, but is this to the detriment of domestic boxing. Will this stop British boxers learning their trade properly, commonwealth, British , European , and then getting a shot at a world title at home, which is a much more winnable proposition. There seems to be an element of a cut price lambs to the slaughter about the early days of Dazn. Also, and I know it's early days, these types of fights aren't going to drive subscriptions stateside. Naz, Calzaghe, Froch, Lennox Lewis, Hatton, Khan, Joshua, probably all the great fighters of the last 25 years , won world titles at home , then defended successfully in the US. Some of these top fighters would have fallen by the wayside if Dazn had been around then.

Tennyson was the away fighter against MJW and also Ryan Walsh when he fought for the British.
So he's used to been the underdog.
I think it's a good opportunity for him.
He doesn't bring massive bargaining power to any negotiating table, and would probably have to travel for any world title shot he got.

I fancy Tennyson’s chances tbf, he has power and he can trade without really worrying about what’s coming back at him

callum johnson and gavin mcdonnel aren't exactly household names in the uk, so if they can go and fight for a world title and earn decent money in the US then why wouldn't they take these fights. its not like they can sell out big arenas in the uk anyway

Good luck to him, he’s doing all the right things and is clearly more comfortable at the new weight

I reckon he’ll go over and bang farmer out

Never really rated Tennyson as a boxer but he has heart and certainly carries power so u can't right him off. Doyle and ward had him hurt and it turned around. I hope he pulls it off. His done well to say he was stopped by journey man senkvos in and around his 10th fight.

Not true,Tennyson is very vulnerable himself.

I have no doubt Farmer could hurt and stop him.Its a cracking fight.

I do agree with this comment, but I saw Naz defending his European title at Cardiff Ice Rink , Calzaghe at the Star Leisure Centre, Froch was at more sports centres than an aerobics instructor and Lewis had one world title defence on Wire TV ( McCall ( 1 ) ). Promoter's can build fighters into stars and sometimes it just happens eg Hatton , Warrington, who started off in the smallest of small halls. If these guys had been slung in with overseas champions at the earliest opportunity , we would have missed out on some great nights. We all get frustrated at fighters being moved along slowly, eg Anthony Yarde, but it's equally frustrating if it's the other way. Warren handled Buglioni really well up to a world title shot and capitalised on his fan base , since he moved to Eddie Hearn, all be it in 2 decent fights, he's almost at journeyman level.

.....I'm not saying Frank Buglioni was ever a great fighter but he is fun to watch and comes to fight.

DAZN have very few fighters and a load of slots to fill. Is not great news for domestic shows, as Hearn seems to have half his string filling in for US fighters he did not sign.

It’s worse for US fans who are seeing low level contenders every week challenging for world titles.

Gavin McDonnell,Callum Johnson and James Tennyson for a start. Then they have the privilege of seeing Tommy Coyle and Scott Quigg in action soon, this looks to be the most likely way of Matchroom filling out bills in the early days.Great for the lads, and ok for us who know these guys but US fans won’t appreciate it if they are all outclassed, which is conceivable.

Farmer must be getting slated in the US for this defence. Carrol must feel sick.

They've got a low enough regard of British fighters as it is. I hope someone produces the goods out there.
