Willie Limond's Madison Square Garden Fight Postponed http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=16666&more=1 Willie Limond is absolutely gutted that his dream chance to fight in Madison Square Garden has been postponed due to an injury sustained by headline act Joe Calzaghe. Limond was due to face American-based Ukrainian Dmitriy Salita in the famous New York venue on September 20 on the undercard of Calzaghe’s bout with Roy Jones Jr., but the Welshman’s wrist injury has forced the whole show to be put back to November.. Limond said: “I’m very disappointed that my fight has been postponed but at least the show will still go on in November. The delay also gives me time to prepare more thoroughly for the light-welterweight division. “I will be staying in the gym preparing for this fight and working to build myself up and get in shape for the higher weight division.” Although it hasn’t been decided what title belt Limond and Salita will contest, their fight will be over twelve rounds for one of the light-welterweight division’s vacant straps, giving the 29-year-old from Garthamlock the opportunity to add to his EU super-featherweight, Celtic super-featherweight, Commonwealth lightweight and IBO Intercontinental lightweight titles to become a three-division champion. Limond added: “Salita looks like a good fighter going by the footage I have seen so far. I’m going to have to be on top of my game to pull this one off. I’m also looking forward to hopefully winning another title so I can say that I have won titles in three different weight divisions.”
wullie whos the best fighter you ve fought both in the ring and sparring?? and kick this russians ass!! good luck!!
Oh hell, yeah, I hadn't twigged yet that the Calzaghe injury scuppered Limond's date at MSG too. Well, so long as it's only a postponement and not a cancellation.
dont worry mate this is he, i think if i was trying to be someone else i would av said i was someone with a higher profile
in sparring scott harrison without a doubt, and alex arthur is the best iv fought, i sparred a lot of good fighters, michael brodie, michael gomez, brian carr in his day, gary thornhill was a tough spar too, paul mcloskey barry morrison, ross minter very strong, and ricky burns has a good jab and is a tough lad too, steve foster, choi, this could go on all night, youve got me thinking about the old days!! lol
Willie, nice to see you on here mate! Just had a quick look on boxrec and it seems to suggest that your bout is still on for Sept, is that right? If it is then best of luck mate. I havent seen much of Salita but read an article about him about six months ago where they were hyping him right up! So I had a little look at his record when I got back. Not great in my opinion so you'll definately be a step up for him. Also seen that he was floored by Frankel, who's not exactly a big puncher!!! If the fight is still going ahead then best of luck Willie. If not, what's your plan man?
Willie, Im glad to see your fight with Salita hs only been postponed & not cancelled:happy So as promised, heres the Salita documentary my pal has just uploaded for you & my fellow ESB'ers to enjoy!
Some very good names there, but as an Irishman I'm interested to what you made of Paul McCloskey . Paul made hard work of Nigel Wright recently(but still deserved the win), and I was hoping for much greater things from Paul than domestic level so in a way that fight was a bit of a let down . If he stuck to what he's good at(boxing from the outside) I'd favour him over Branco .
Just fight your fight and try not to get caught up in the occassion. As an Englishman I don't really follow Scottish boxers but I must say two have really impressed me. The first was that lad that got robbed against Derry Matthews and the second was yourself. Believe me I was really rooting for you when you decked Khan and I will be for this fight too. Good luck Willie.
dont even start me on the john simpson robbery's.......... yes plural :twisted::twisted: :good
