That decision will not benefit Paul Williams in the long run.

I think most of us saw what Williams and Peterson said prior to the fight last night, that ''we're not going to change the way we fight, we just got caught(by Martinez), it happens'', that was obviously prophetic last night/this morning, and it should have cost Williams the decision. I don't think he's shot as some made out(he's on his way though), certainly past his best but I wouldn't call him full-blown done. The same limitations he always had were shown up, and I believe that we're underrating Lara's performance a bit, he followed the blueprint to beat Paul, he stood back, saw Williams' punches being thrown from too far back, stepped out of range and flashed the right hand out before following through with the left. And he did it consistently, as it wasn't neccessary for him to do anything different because of the continuous success he was having.

The worrying aspect for me is, if he didn't attempt to make any kind of refinement in the slightest when he got sparked out in two, he's not going to do it when he gets awarded the decision, is he? He's going to fight the same old way, and knowing him, as he's not one to shy away, he's going to be doing it against more and more quality fighters, however long it is he chooses to go on for. He's well on his way to becoming punch-drunk, and I don't want to see that. It seems inevitable though, and I'm sad to say that we'll probably just have to accept it.

Lara clearly won the fight last night. I can't actually believe they gave it to Williams.

if he sticks to his plan of retiring in a 1/2 fights then maybe hell just manage to survive with his brain in tact.

 

He gets hit way too much, and apart from Winky, it's southpaws that give him the most trouble and yet he keeps fighting'em!

He seemed to try and throw a straight jab at distance a few times in the opening seconds....and then fell in as he always does. Not even his volume could've snatched a win for him last night, he lost soundly (not 120-108 as some seem to be saying, I gave P-Dub 3 rounds or so I think) but he's clearly on the slide.

He should stick around mid-level for a bit I reckon.

On 154, what kind of form is Molina having at the mo'!!!!! Fair play to him, how does he fare against P-Dub, or even Canelo? He has already got the better of Lara, is he just having a purple patch, or is his record deceptive and can he continue his good run?

Who should P-Dub take on next? He's not shot at all IMO, on the slide, yes, but he hasn't fallen to pieces. I said ages ago Manny Pac would've beaten him easy, I maintain that Williams does struggle against southpaws (took two attempts to do Quintana, it was Martinez who made the easy adjustment in their rematch, now Lara) and only Winky, whos main offence was not a left hand but his jab, which Williams easily shut down, had no success against him from that stance, possibly because he's converted anyways.

 

Roy Jones was right in that being so tall and giving up his advantages makes him even easier to hit than a normal fighter for that left cross. As well as the fact his guard is always low.

I think he should just keep away from southpaws for a start. There is a pattern emerging there that would be foolish to ignore. He takes to many big, big punches against them and it makes for hard viewing because he takes them so well.

Whoever he faces they should consider it a bit more carefully instead of diving in to dance with anyone. Admirable attitude, but at this stage of his career it might be wise to start doing what everyone else does, pick and choose.

 

Southpaws are always a bad matchup for anyone. Lara got outworked. Would love to see PW in with Steward. Laras got no pop though IMO.
