from what i watched, Nonito wanted to be the better boxer but just couldnt, Rigo's speed was the main factor. he was faster and Donaire never really showed the ability to time Rigondeaux. you could see from the mid rounds when Rigo used his faint more often and Donaire bit every time. thats a classic example of one boxer taking control of a fight. i havent looked at any comments from other people towards Donaire regarding this fight. he was clearly outboxed imo though, but if youre shitting on Rigo just because other people are being shitty towards Nonito, then youre no better than they are.
Rigo was at the distance beneficial to him. He was on the backfoot but he was'nt running. Rigo's left hand was almost always cocked back and daring Nonito to throw punches at him. Instead, Nonito plodded slowly and never really pressed the action enough to force Rigo to fight at more a war's pace. With Rigo controlling pace and tempo, it was on Nonito to force the issue. Sensing urgency Nonito waited ti'll the 10th to give ferocity and aggresiveness a try. Rigo held his own after the knockdown in the 10th. Came out and won the 11th and then popped Nonito a shot right in the eye blinding him and taking the fight in the final round right out of him. Rigo fought aggressively in the final round knowing Nonito was blinded, before then there was no reason for Rigo to get overly aggressive when what he was doing was working to perfection. Give Rigo his due Patsy's, he was just the better fighter, that was so clear.
He won indeed, I never contested that. Check out my previous posts, I picked him to beat Donaire. But people are going overboard about Rigo.
Rigo fought a nice measured fight, taking what Donaire was risking. He beat a legit p4p'er, he should get some high praise.
This thread is an embarrassment. Outside of one knockdown which didn't even hurt Rigo, the fight was not competitive. Rigondeaux won 9 rounds at the very very least, and looked amazing. His defense was nearly impeccable, and his offense was swift and damaging. To say Rigo didn't do anything in the fight is a disservice to Donaire who was countered so cleanly so many times that he was terrified to throw for much of the fight. This was no staring contest, this was a schooling. There have been worse beat downs and clinics in the history of the sport, but there have been few so thorough and surprisingly one-sided in recent memory.
It depends on your definition of a clinic or schooling. I feel like Barrera/Hamed and Mayweather/Corrales (where the other figher was completely dominated through clever and skilful boxing) falls under the clinic and schooling area. It's to the point where the other guy looks helpless in the ring. Not sure if this fight would qualify (mainly due to Rigondeaux's low workrate) but Rigondeaux easily beat an elite, top five pound for pound fighter, so it's very impressive. His defence was great, and he landed some very sharp counters too.
