Well what can I say? This of course. Firstly, Im not in this thread to mumble "yeah, both guys were great, great night great this great that big kudos to them both etc" just to toe the party line or gain brownie points from the forum big hitters like Gaz etc. Its a post straight from my big scottish heart. That was a GREAT night. WHAT a fight! Jim Watt got caught out yet again for being a hometown fighter backer, it was obvious in the early rounds that although Rhodes was taking more shots than was healthy, he was still landing his own bombs to the body early. Watt screamed "Ryans tactics are all wrong! He shouldnt be standing in front of Moore" or words to that effect. My goodness, Rhodes didnt half make Watt eat his words. he slugged it out, took some massive shots & of course hit back, Rhodes picks beautiful punches. When the mans on form, hes world class. & what about that last round? Rhodes floors More heavily, Moore somehow survives the KD with me screaming in my pals ears "theres no way Moore is getting back up from this, hes gone" & Moore roars back(making me look like a bozo in the process) & it looks like Rhodes is on his way out, hes on the back foot & taking big shots! & THEN Rhodes pulls out the world class from his armoury & finishes the game Moore... What a fight. Sorry about my basic summary, Im pissed just now & going on sheer memory Ryan Rhodes, what a fighter, & what a man. It may shock you lot, but I really love this guy & hope he wins a world title. The older posters will know where Im coming from here, any guy in their 30's will remember the young Ryan Rhodes & the potential he had, then it all went wrong. However, he stepped back, got his act together & is now on the brink of world glory. Which has got me thinking about making a seperate thread, cos I have some good points to make aout Ryan Rhodes & how certain boxers from these shores should look up to him as a role model... stop right there. I'll keep it for another thread as Im too pissed at the moment to put my point accross properly. To cut a long story short, Ryan Rhodes is the man. & I respect him SO much that I want to see this guy win a world title before he retires. & how often do you see me say that about a non-scotsman? Thats how highly I think of him. & thats why I love boxing too:good
Did anyone hear what Mooresy said to Rhodes when he said about going to middleweight and fighting Macklin ?
Well said Gaz, The fight was superb. I didn't expect that kind of fight at all, It was always gonna be an interesting match up with Jamie's pressure fighting against Rhodes slick style but Rhodes stepped up, went toe to toe and beat Jamie at his own game. What about that last round though, Jamie Moore looks out of it then comes blazing back like that what an effort....Unbelievable heart shown by Jamie and the same goes for Rhodes, he took some punishment and walked through it all, Boxing at it's finest.:happy
Indeed we do. I remember the Spice Boy of old, the Union Jack shorts. The fight with Ottis Grant for the WBO middleweight title then the KO loss to Jason Mathews for the same title. He also lost to Blundell and Lockett. Remember, I think I'm correct here, Rhodes is undefeated at 154lbs.
Yep, he is. He got a surprise shot at a title at 160 against Grant and you can't blame him for taking it but he should have come back down to 154 straight after that loss.
I would love to see a rematch. If Rhodes wins the world title how about Moore as his first defence if Moore stays in this division it would be a classic. The last round amazing I thought Moore had Rhodes rocked after he got back up and was looking for the finish but what a shot from Rhodes every shot landed on Moore in that finish I hope Rhodes goes on and wins a world title.
