you didn't get it... the point was it can end at any time. In boxing one big punch can end the fight, in MMA one mistake can end the fight with either submission or KO. Sonnen made a mistake and silva made him pay for it.
He knows this, he just isn't a fan of MMA. Which is why he shouldn't be watching, let alone posting about MMA because he will have a pitty party everytime someone mounts a comeback and makes their opponent tap.
MMA is a contest of skill you moron, not toughness. It is not the 'lesser, inferior' man who wins by submission, it is the more rounded and skilled mixed martial artist.
Go watch Mosley vs Mora for 50 bucks...that would be much better value for you and you can walk away happy.
In all sports you get great combacks..tonight was one...been down on the UFC for sometime, but the cards and fights have been much better of late. Great win tonight from A.S,
Blah blah, this post is actually comical. The fact that a better fighter who fought a better fight and didn't win is actually ok with you and others is laughable. Mind you if you're a Silva fan, of course you think it's heroic. What was the punch count? 200 - 10. What was the take down count? 10-0. Minutes anderson spent getting his ass handed to him? 23 minutes to Sonnens last minute slip into a gay triangle. Wow, real exciting and real impressive. What a great ending to a one sided beating. Silva really deserved that one. My god.:gsg
Sonnen did great but it shows Silva has heart to be able to pull it out of the fire like that. To say its cheap is just a bunch of bull****.
This wasn't a comeback by any means. If you want to compare it to other sports, compare it to football. Sonnen just fumbled on the one yard line. In football they call that unlucky, but apparently you fools say there is no luck in MMA. Ya, ok.
He meant to apply the triangle/armbar, he did, what was lucky? He was lucky sonnen can't defend, he was lucky he survived that long, other than that he did what the rules allow for. The sport is based on finishing, Silva got Sonnen to give up.
Sure Sonnen was beating on him for 4 rounds but he could't finish him, when Silva put that submission on if there was no ref and a tap Sonnen dies from being strangled so being on the 1 yard line isn't the same.
Yep, the OP has finally won me over. Dana White must overturn this decision and proclaim Sonnen the champ. The logic being of course that you shouldn't be allowed to win by submission late in a fight where you've been dominated. In fact, he should have just awarded the belt to Sonnen right after the fight was over, and told the crowd exactly what his rationale was. I'm sure they would have understood and applauded White. And although he'll now be the champ, Sonnen should be fined since he had the audacity to tap even though he was so far ahead in the fight. Why did he disgrace the sport by tapping when he was clearly dominating? Geez Chael, didn't you know you were so far ahead? To prevent travesties like this in the future, new rules must be put in place that only allow fighters to attempt submissions when they are ahead in a fight. Or even better, if a fighter is far ahead after 4 rounds they should cancel the 5th round because the other fighter just doesn't deserve to win. There we go. Everything is settled.
I'm a fan of both fighters, I love watching grapplers of all sorts do their thing. The better man always wins.. Sonnen is not a better fighter. The guy has been submitted in 8 of his 11 losses, just look at who they have fought. The ending was just like how that one punch in boxing changes the course of a fight.
