it wasn't a robbery, because murray had the measure of him and was shaking him. with lead left hooks, leads right hands. classy shots that are hard to throw as leads. murray was boxing within himself. i wish the ref had given murray a chance to step in and close strong, to sit down on his shots. he certainly would have, and thaxton would have retired on a beating, rather than a premature stoppage. murray did nothing wrong. the ref was in the wrong. thaxton wasn't robbed, as in robbed of winning, because he was in deep trouble. murray deserved to finish him - he was made to wait a long time for this fight - and thaxton deserved to go out on his shield. i'm sort of glad thaxton was spared what could have been brutal beatdowns by both murray and romanov. it's tempting to sentimentalize thaxton. but what a pro he has been. some great nights. it's good to see real warriors like thaxton who will fight anyone and reach their potential, as opposed to annoying prima donnas like alex arthur who get world titles handed to them.
Great career and great fighter. Hope he stays in the game in somecapacity. Credit to boxing. All the best
Great warrior, gave us some classic fights and never ever gave up. Hope he stays involved in the game in some capacity.
I couldnt give a **** about Thaxton the man, the fighter or the legacy to be honest. I just know a **** stoppage, & tHAT was a **** stoppage. Oh look, Murray has landed a good shot on Thaxton, STOP THE FIGHT!!!! Is this what British boxing has come to? Sadly enough nowadays, it has. Its all about paid off refs trying to boost 'prospects' KO records to suit promoters, & Joe Public swallowing all the **** the biased commentary teams spoon feed 'em. Im sick of it, to be honest. Maybe MMA needs to come along, just to teach boxing a harsh lesson, as the TV companies running away from the sport like rats deserting a sinking ship dont seem to have spelled it out to those who run boxing on these shores... THIS CANT GO ON. I just spelled it out for 'em. In big capital letters. Cos I held the caps lock down.
your usual classy response, little praise for anyone and just an excuse to slag ppl off. the ref spoiled it for murray, rather than helping him. are you insinuating that the promoter paid howard foster to stop it at the first chance? and i would think that thaxton might be the promoter's favourite - thaxton works with ingles, ingles have influence in hennessy's promotional outfit. saying the ref was paid to do that is stupid and could get you in trouble. you are not allowed to say things like that. there have been a few too many premature stoppages, but thaxton was going to get battered. murray hadn't even started to sit down on his shots. he might have really been damaged by both murray and romanov had the fights not been cut short. regardless of the stoppage, murray's going places, and thaxton has retired at the right time, etc.
First and foremost, Jono is a great guy. He was never disrespectful, always gracious in defeat and equally as humble in victory. In the ring, he brought intensity, passion, willpower, a great punch, and perhaps the most intense staredown seen on these shores for a long, long time - he had the things that can't be taught. Some fighters are born with the right mentality - jono had it in spades. British boxing has lost a great ambassador with this news, but I am happy that Jono has left the sport in good health after many years of giving us top drawer fights. Jono - thanks for the memories, and best wishes for the future.
i reckon his best, most exciting fights were vs dave stewart - terrific boxing match, that (probably broke dunky's heart as well). and mezaache - massive 1st round, controversy, thrilling exchanges in rds 10 and 11. so many dramatic moments, though. blowing out melero and scrap iron ryan, cutting hatton, getting stopped on a head clash vs rowland...post fight interview, warren rubbing hands together, we can do thaxton-rowland rematch for the WB wankit title, thaxton distraught, saying no! no! it has to be for the british title! that is my fave boxing interview.
