Floyd was only completely undersized in one fight in his career. That was against Oscar.

Yes, he was outweighed, but not completely undersized. Look at his height and reach.

A fighters reach is extremely important, and Floyd's is big at 72"
To put that into perspective, GG's is 70" and Ricky Hatton's is 65"

If Floyd had been a natural MW with GG's dimensions, would he have moved up to SMW/LHW? Obviously we don't know the answer, but it's fun to speculate.

The point is, you can't do a direct comparison between a guy who turned pro at SFW and a guy who turned pro at MW.

Again, it's circumstances and opportunity.

 

Sure you can compare. Yes, height and reach are a factor. But, unless the difference in reach is significant, it's splitting hairs. No he was not undersized in only 1 fight. I don't think he was bigger than Corrales for starters. He had a couple of inches in reach. But, he gave up 2 and 1/2 inches in height.

Would he have moved up to LHW coming from MW? Likely, if the money was there. Roy Jones did it. Bernard Hopkins did it. James Toney did it.

Of course reach is a factor. It's a huge factor, especially for a guy like Floyd. He had a 7" reach advantage over Ricky Hatton.

I don't agree that it would have been likely that Floyd would have gone to LHW had he been GG's exact size.

Yes, those guys you mention did it, but they were all bigger than GG.

Hopkins is 6'1, with a 75" reach, and he fought above the MW limit on numerous occasions. In my opinion, he would never have fought at LHW had he have been 5'10 with a 70" reach.

Floyd made Canelo fight at a CW, even though he was a JMW champ himself. So I just can't see how he'd have fought regularly against guys who would have completely outsized him. It's not in his nature.

 

Reach is important I agree. But, it's not the end all, unless all other things are equal. If we are talking about a couple of inches, it does not mean much when the opponent is 10-15 lbs heavier and 2-3 inches taller.

Yes, I know Hopkins was bigger. Jones wasn't that much bigger. Toney could carry a lot more weight than all of them. But should not have been at HW.

Canelo offered the C/W as the story goes.

And no one is saying GGG should move up to LHW. Not sure how we even got on that. He said he would fight anyone from 154-168. So, moving up or down to make meaningful fights happen is not out of the realm of possibility. But, I guess what he meant to say was he would fight anyone from 154-168 as long as the fights take place at 160.

Whilst I wouldn't be as confrontational with the 'boy' talk. That's a phrase I would only use on someone in real life and if I was looking to slap someone down harshly, I understand your sentiments.

Andre Ward semi retiring and then making **** fights for a number of years now equals 'daring to be great'. Only on ESB.

 

He probably won't get near them because he can't IMO become the best in multiple divisions(maybe MW and SMW is about it). But he's pretty damn good you always get over zealous fans of fighters especially with exciting fighters like GGG.
But he's still pretty damn good and has a likeable personality can't see why some hate him but to each there own.

You don't really know about size in boxing. You're basing your simple thought on height and reach. To say that Floyd was completely outsized only in one fight is a ****en clueless lie. Floyd has been fighting and sparring men bigger than him his whole career so to sugget otherwise means that you have a cheap agenda against Floyd. Nothing major just cheap.

I agree. He is very good. But, people are waiting to see just HOW good (not the fanboys...they are completely satisfied). And that won't happen until he takes a risk (move up or down), one of these quivering champions at 160 finds his b@lls, or some of the talent moves up to 160 or down.
