I once commented that Shavers conditioning must’ve been pretty poor for the Quarry fight - someone replied that they couldn’t see how conditioning came into it given the brevity of the fight.

But the point was that, while excellent conditioning lends itself to better stamina it also contributes to greater resilience and recuperative powers (after the initial fact of being hurt). Once Quarry hurt Earnie it was more or less all she wrote - down the slippery slope.

Notably, things weren’t going Earnie’s way against Ellis either - Jimmy opened up on Shavers and had him hurt pretty early in the piece - but as we know, a single uppercut (supplemented by a foul tactic) turned the fight completely around with an immediate ending by KO in Shavers favour.
