He does have a say. He can either man up or run like a girl and drop the title. The word 'ducking' is thrown around with ridiculous regularity on ESB and we'd actually have a bona fide example for once.
Oy, you still haven't learned. This is the part where you forget that it was Diaconu who pulled out of the fight the first time. And you were educated on the difference between avoid and duck, but you've forgotten that, too. Dawson should defend unless the Tarver deal comes off with a payday that's at least very close to being equivalent. That fight means more to his career than absolute numbers, something else I'm confident you won't concede. Still, to be clear, I'm hoping the fight happens, and in Romania. Would be a great show. In the worst case, hopefully Diaconu will fight Johnson for the vacated belt. Johnson deserves a payday and that would be a hell of a fight.
If he didn't want to fight in the challenger's hometown, his promoter should have made a better offer. The Romanians made a much better offer...$1.8 mil is serious money at the level they are... Given that Diaconu is a mandatory, according to the rules, the Champ will have no say in where the fight will be held if the mandatory's promoter won the purse bid, so...it WILL be in Bucharest.
YOU still haven't learned. Dawson has been ducking Diaconu. DUCKING! He doesn't even have a financial excuse to keep ducking him now. He'd better man up.:deal
Or he can fight in a more meaningful bout for a different belt, parlaying a potential victory into an every bigger fight and payday. I know you guys love to oversimplify, but very rarely does a fighter avoid an opponent for purely competitive reasons. If Dawson fights for peanuts on ESPN, then yeah, you and I probably will agree. But if he gets the Tarver fight, only zealots will say that he ducked Diaconu, a man he already agreed to fight once, and one whose stocked has dropped since that time.
Dawson has no direct control over Shaw. Chad has say in the sense he can fight in Romania or tell them to buzz off and fight for a different belt. If he drops the belt and takes on a lesser opponent, you and I will be in agreement. If he fights Tarver, we will not be in agreement. But agreed that the purse bid is very impressive.
Did he duck him when he signed to fight him last fall and Diaconu pulled out? Did he duck him when Tarver left him at the alter in the spring? Did he duck him by fighting a BETTER opponent than Diaconu in Glen Johnson in April? Would he be ducking him by fighting Tarver, a better and more recognizable opponent than Diaconu this fall? Do you really want to go down that road, because that's what you're up against. None of this is to say that Diaconu can't win, only there are some fans who either can't or won't view fight negotiations as the business endeavors that they are.
I agree...this fight is long overdue......I'm beginning to think this fight will never happen:-( Dawson probably knows his chin won't be up to the task of handling accurate, well timed bombs over and over again........Dawson is a piece of **** coward of a thief......Johnson beat him and almost put him to sleep.....If the fight ever happens Diaconu will ruin the *******:fire
I hope this fight will be on Boxing After Dark or something, maybe even Showtime,oh hell even ESPN will be good.
Well the Dawson fight isn't happening anytime soon. He is going after the bigger named fish it seems, money don't matter much to him I guess being he got a HUGE offer to fight in Romania. But deep down I don't blame him much. If everything goes right, Dawson and Diaconu will meet in the ring one day. I read some news on Polishboxing that Diaconu might have made his first defense vs Dawid Kostecki, but that fell threw and his first title fight will be against Italian Silvio Branco. To be honest, I would have rather let Diaconu fight somone like Johnson or give Henry a rematch in Canada. But I think Diaconu took the smart bet and choose to fight Branco. He knew he was struggling with Henry a bit and decided to fight Branco to maybe get a better feel before he fights someone of a Johnson caliber. I really hope Diaconu learned a lot from the fight with Henry. And if everything goes the right way, Diaconu should knock him out in about 6 rounds. Hopefully he improves somehow on his endurance and stamina, cause he will need it if/when he faces a guy like Johnson. Go DIACONU!!
Well just a couple of days left till the purse bid for the Diaconu vs Branco fight, hope the romanians win but it pretty much won't make a difference cuz Diaconu is KO Branco anywhere.
You're right it really won't make a difference. I really want to see Diaconu-Johnson soon. I felt Johnson beat Dawson by 2 points
