He didn’t. I think that was one of the best things about it. It will have been a humbling victory, that nose busting will hopefully tighten his defence next time out and there will be less sloppiness and less of them low hands!!
Well i had Joshua down every round apart from maybe 1 and thought Povetkin had a real chance of taking it but yet again he pulled the rabbit out of the hat against top competition.
Credit to Joshua for the stoppage. He pulls them out of the bag when necessary and Povetkin had never been stopped before. However, saying Wilder and Fury haven't overcame adversity is ridiculous. Ortiz boxed excellently against Wilder and nearly had him out of there before Wilder OVERCAME ADVERSITY and got the stoppage. Fury was knocked over several times in his early twenties before getting up, OVERCOMING ADVERSITY and getting the W. For what it's worth, I'd fancy AJ to KO Wilder. But I think the Furious one will dance around both with ease.

No. Not like all those other fighters who have looked great in beating povetkin. He looked decent enough, it's been obvious for a while that he wasn't really up for this fight yet he's the only person to ktfo povetkin or even beat him without resorting to mma tactics for 12 rounds
I thought he looked off the mark and was fortunate not to get caught my Povetkin on the inside tonight. Cannot afford to gift those shots to Wilder if they ever meet. However it was an impressive finish with accurate, hurtful combinations and consolidates his resume as the best in the division regardless of personal opinion. As a side note I thought the atmosphere and event was incredibly forced. Complacency from Matchroom?
Without a doubt the number 1 HW in the world at present. AJ has 3 of 4 world titles. Beaten 4 of the current Ring Magazine Top 10 in Povetkin, Parker, Whyte and Breazeale (also has a win over an ATG in Wladimir). Only 2 other of the Top 10 HWs have wins over Top 10 opponents and thats Wilder and Whyte with only 1 each.
Tbf Wilder came through a lot of adversity against Ortiz and Fury, to a lesser degree, against Cunningham. But AJ definitely has got the best resume in the division. It’s just the division isn’t necessarily stacked, talent wise
I kept wondering why the low jab. It seemed obvious to me he wanted that left high to protect against the overhand right and to put some snap behind the jab to stop povetkin lunging in. But maybe AJ was smarter than i gave him credit for and it was his plan all along to paw away looking for the opening with the right hand.
This. Come on @Scissors, you’re a good poster but that’s a poor dig at Fury and Wilder. Both have overcome serious adversity, Fury against Cunningham and Wilder against Ortiz.
Personally another arrow pointing towards juicing for me. Joshua was poor tonite. Great stoppage but watching him his skill set is poor. The one thing that stands out is no one can stand up to his power. Its abnormal power. The skillset is what you,d expect from a relatively novice fighter like he should be. The thing that stands out is the power. The only reason he's won that fight is that power. The results he's getting scream like someone that's mastered boxing. And yet hes not. That's been an off night from Joshua. And yet he's stretched out povetkin even tho his boxing skills been inferior. Hes losing out to 39 year olds. 42 year olds. He's been almost lethargic. But the powers been the difference. For me that's not normal power. Tyson had the technique that the power made sense. Joshua's doesn't. He's a novice that just so happened to have power no one could live with. He's so bad he's letting boys at 39 with a massive reach disadvantage...much smaller get inside on. But he's been born with this unnatural power. Not sure I m buying it tbh.
