Pre-fight Parker and his camp said they would KO Joshua. Joshua came in smaller than everyone predicted. Yet for some reason Parker is getting credit for a terrible performance.
There's a difference between being pro/anti any fighter and simply being level headed though. Claming Joshua is an ATG is far too 'pro' Joshua at this stage. Claiming Joshua cannot be an ATG is far too 'anti' Joshua. The fact is we have a 21 fight, relative novice, who is one belt away from being undisputed champion of the world. He could beat Wilder, and Fury, and his next 10 mandatories and become an ATG. He could lose his next mandatory to Povetkin and never recover and not become an ATG.
I had not watched the pre-fight bravado so the statement didn't stand out that much as a discrepancy. It did come across as an excuse though-as if he were saying that bigness was a determining factor. . He did seem especially cautious not to get hit by the Joshua uppercut. Such caution can reduce how many chances you take in attacking. Seems as if the Klitcho knockout psyched him out. Was he unduly cautious? Could he have won if more aggressive. Obviously he didn''t think so and so fought the way he did.
I think the way Joshua destroyed low level comp before Wlad have casuals thinking he should be doing it every time he fights. I'm one of the ones that believe with his advantages he maybe should've got to Parker more down the stretch, he was overly cautious. Parker though showed great movement, chin and gas tank for a relatively big man himself, there's definitely positives he takes from the fight more so than Joshua imo...Definitely no beatdown like Tony Bellew's making out
Joshua should have been more aggressive? He dominated the fight...What should he do? It reminded me of Saunders v Lemieux when poor old Jim said something like "With Saunders so far ahead, why not go for the knockout?".....Before he was schooled by Roy Jones JR "He's so far ahead, why should he?". Parker was meant to be 'the fastest heavyweight on the planet'.....Joshua negated him completely with a simple jab. Lewis, Ali, Klitschko et al would've been perfectly happy with the performance.
Parker was hyped up as a threat, but the hype script ignored any examination of his last three fights. I only gave Parker a shot because of his youth and how bad Femi looked vs a shot Klitschko and how similarly stiff he was vs stand in gatekeeper Takam. The fight was a stinker and deserves criticism for being such when the charge was £20 and both went home with multi millions. The ref was a homer and the judges one eyed place men. That said, Femi won the fight, if you can call it that.
Coincidentally... Ortiz was hyped up as a threat, but the hype script ignored any examination of his last three fights.
