Closest thing I've ever had is those knuckle protectors. They're not as hard as a plaster pad, but the principle's the same. Not a noticeable difference.
Come on Divac. So if a police officer stops me and asks me to hand over my drivers license but it turns out to be expired, I'm not guilty of anything because I voluntarily handed him my license? The logic you're using in the first paragraph is borderline ******ed. I understand your second paragraph and while I agree wholeheartedly, Manny Pacquiao is not obligated to take part in random blood tests unless it is mandated. To finalize my post, Margarito was suspended based on the accusations of attempting to use illegal wraps with plaster of paris like substances. Regardless of what those substances were, he took part in the whole scandal. When someone who works with casts and says flakes fell off when he examined the wraps, followed by testimony of people who touched the illegal item stating the pads felt hard, AND evidence from the Department of Justice, I'm inclined to believe them. If Margarito truly believes he was innocent I'm sure we would've seen a lawsuit or something against the CSAC from his part. Tell me Divac, why isn't Margarito getting another chance at boxing? Why have the CSAC and the Texas Commissions denied his license?
Maybe I'm not up to date on the recent happenings, but as I understand it, Margarito has not applied for a license in California........he applied for a license in Texas because he wanted to fight on the Pac-Clottey undercard. Texas denied Margarito because they want to honor the ban put forth by California........ ......as I understand it, Margarito's next step may be to ask for a reinstatement hearing with the California commision........if the California commision reinstates him, I would imagine most other commisions will grant Margarito a license to box as well. Am I wrong here? Can anyone provide me a link that states that the CSAC will not grant Margarito reinstatement???
I like Margarito before, with his brawling style and all, but when this cheating incident came out, and after proven guilty, I just did not bother again with him. The Cotto fight was a modern classic, but somehow, after you think of this scandal, you feel bad and sad for Cotto.
Divac, do you honestly believe CSAC is going to grant Margarito a boxing license? Who do you think told Texas and all the other boxing commissions NOT to reinstate Margarito? Karen Chappelle (deputy attorney general in California) stated that California must first reinstate Margarito before he can fight in Texas. The Assn. of Boxing Commissions (ABC), a national body that interprets rules for state commissions, said Texas can make its own decision on Margarito's license. But ABC's board of directors urge in a letter to Texas officials "that Mr. Margarito should not be licensed at this time due to the seriousness of the violations." For the TS who was saying Margarito was unjustly suspended, here you go: "First, after conducting a full, and lengthy, adjudicatory hearing, the CSAC determined that, prior to his January 24, 2009 fight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California against Shane Mosley, the hand-wrap of Antonio Margarito had been saturated with two elements (calcium and sulfur) commonly found in plaster of Paris; and, in a five page Order, dated March 31, 2009, the CSAC ordered that the boxer license of Mr. Margarito be revoked. To the knowledge of the Association of Boxing Commissions, the CSAC Order has not been reversed by any appellate court and remains in full force and effect. This content is protected It appears obvious that the offenses for which Mr. Margarito was found to be in violation fit squarely within the confines of this provision. Third, the ABC strongly encourages its member commissions to adhere to, and enforce, all applicable federal laws." -Tim Lueckenhoff (President of the ABC)
Great find MK. Saturated, not trace amounts. Hopefully that puts to rest the sweat defense and the Oil of Olay defense.
Is'nt that basically what I just alluded to in my post??? California suspended him, so obviously I would believe that they would like it if Margarito went through them (CSAC) to get reinstated. Its hard to say whether California will reinstate Margarito. I would think that Arum will in conjunction with Margarito work with a team of lawyers and figure out a proper presentation that will work to get Margarito reinstated. My feeling is that if California denies Margarito and does'nt give him any real hope for a reinstatement in the near future........you will then see Margarito take the Commision to court, and in the meantime he's likely to fight in Mexico and or a country outside the US. My feeling however is that he's likely to get reinstated......the reason being is that Margarito fully honored the 1 year suspension without fighting, when he could very well have fought in his own country of Mexico.
That's what I'm saying - you think the commission that suspended him is going to grant him the license? Especially when they are advising others NOT to reinstate AM. On top of that, the ABC is basically saying not to grant Margarito a license as well. Not for now at least, from what I read and posted. I believe Margarito will get reinstated as well but the more I read, the more I venture away from my original belief. I actually thought he was going to get reinstated in Texas when the fight against Jones was announced and everything. However, it seems like Arum is not doing anything (being a lawyer himself) to help Margarito. If Margarito fights in Mexico, I believe 99% he will not step foot into a ring inside the US again.
If indeed it say's saturated with calcium and sulfur, I wonder why the CSAC did'nt just come out and say that the knucklepad would have turned plaster like hard during the fight had Margarito wore them????? I also wonder why Capetillo would use old knucklepads.......what we have to remember is that the knucklepads had been premade by Capetillo and he just took them out of his own bag and used them on Margarito's knuckles. .....and would'nt old knucklepads saturated with Calcium an sulfur already have been plaster hard????? I'm really puzzled as to Mosley's testimony saying that they looked and felt normal to him...... .....and with the testimony from an inspector who had said they were firm but not hard.:huh .......in any regards, even if the said knucklepads were hard enough, you still have to take into account that Margarito already had gauze wrapped around his hand when that knucklepad was placed on his knuckle area. I believe what Richardson had said was that Margarito had tape around the knuckle area to which he objected too......if Margarito had tape and clean gauze around that knuckle area, there is reason to believe he may not have felt the knucklepad enough to notice it was firm. This content is protected Thats the knucklepad in question. Now if there if that knucklepad was saturated with Calcium and sulfur, Capetillo would have to have been a complete moron not to have covered it up with just clean gauze around it. There is a stain on the knucklepad. I've always thought to myself, if he did it intentionally, why the hell would'nt he have made sure that the knucklepad looked clean like it have just been rolled??????? I mean, if I wanted to cheat, I'd make sure that knucklepad looked brand new. .....and quite frankly, how much calcium and sulfur can be hidden in a pad that size so that the inspector did'nt notice it....... There is really alot of points to make in behalf to say that Margarito may have not noticed..... .....like, why did'nt the inspector notice it. He was fight there watching the whole thing. .....also to note is that the first knucklepad which was also illegal, got by not only the inspector, but Richardson himself........the first hand was wrapped in the presence of both Richardson and the inspector and was signed off by the inspector. When they Capetillo was wrapping the second hand and was about to lay the knucklepad on top of Margarito's hand, is when Richardson asked he wanted to see and feel the knucklepad..... When Richardson noticed it abnormal, he asked the inspector for Margarito to unwrap the hand that was already signed off......if I'm not mistaken, the inspector objected, but when Richardson asked him, "would you rather see it abnormal after the fight?" .....the inspector said, "you're right, and asked Margarito to unwrap, (under the objection of Capetillo, but Margarito told Capetillo, "unwrap me." The first knucklepad got by both the inspector and Richardson, yet alot of you guys are stating Margarito should have noticed it......... Hello, Margarito did'nt grab the knucklepad with his hand and place it on there himself to have felt it with his fingers......it was laid on his knuckles which hand already contained sufficient gauze that I'm sure he may not have felt even the texture of the knucklepad as it laid on his knuckles.
These are all questions that I think will get answered in time. As more info gets out little by little, we get a better picture of what happened. Its hard to make accurate judgements when the information is so difficult to obtain. I will say this, the more info that comes out, the worse and worse it looks for Margarito. Before, it was....... "he didn't do it, it was nothing, there's an innocent explanation." Now, it seems everyone believes wrong was done, but those defending Margarito think he may not have known. I am starting to believe it will all come out in due time.
I believe that if Margarito gets reinstated, the specifics of it all will get swept under the rug....... ......and I for one would like to know one way of the other exactly what went on in that dressing room as Capetillo wrapped Margarito's hands..... .....and I'd like to also know exactly what was in those knucklepads and to what extent in damage it may have caused in relation to just normal pad...... What we have to remember here is that the CSAC inspector did not do his job that day, letting an illegal knucklepad (Plastered?atsch) for Gods sake slip under the radar...... The commision itself may not want the specifics disclosed because it makes them look even worst than it would Capetillo or Margarito........ To be quite frank.......if Margarito almost got away with it, how many times has this happened in California???? I'd venture to guess in the 100's per year...... .....and even more appalling, I have yet to hear any announcement from the CSAC that they are now doing what the NSAC does, and thats not letting the fighters use their own gauze and tape, but to provide it to the fighters themselves. Are these clowns still letting trainers bring in their won bag of Gauze and tape?????:think
Divac, I think all of this has been swept under the rug already. We're being given far less than what is going on IMO...
If someone were to grant you say 1,000,000 if you let a prim Mike Tyson hit you. Would you let him hit you with his bare knuckles or with a boxing glove. I am a former amatuer boxer. I use to get into many fights as a teen and dropped opponents with either hand. Not an easy thing to do (I am not patting myself on the back by no means, just trying to prove a point). When you add wraps and a boxing glove, you add more weight. With a bareknucks, it a shot. With a glove, it is like a bang. A .22 vs a shotgun. In the ring when I hit opponents, they stagger or go down if I catch them right. If I were to place more padding in the wraps, it would most diffinitely do more damage.
Which is exactly why I cant side with or believe anything that the CSAC chooses to make public...... Thery are very selective in what and how they disclose most matters.
