I can't remember the name of it, but there was a great movie starring Liam Neeson about a guy that was a great bareknuckle boxer in Ireland and he needs money so he gets back in shape and takes on this really tough dude. Long story short, the Irish mafia was involved and the final fight scene was what seemed like 20 minutes of brutal gore. Pretty damn good flick overall.
Has anyone besides me and T.Stout seen Requiem for a Heavyweight??? I'm startled at the lack of attention/respect RFAH has received in this post. It's a CLASSIC. Unbelievably good movie PERIOD that just happens to be about a boxer. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and check it out.
intersting link because when the commentator refers to the "english speaking race" he in effect downplays all other 'races' immediately after that.
No love for "Diggstown"? James Woods and Gossett Jr. were good in it, not to mention a young Heather Graham. :hey
Cinderella man is by far the most well crafted boxing movie of all time. My personal favorites though are Rocky I, II, and III
TS, Saw the original REQUIEM FOR A HEAVYWEIGHT on Playhouse 90 on live TV in the mid-'50s. It starred Jack Palance. Used to see him workin' out at Stillman's Gym.
Raging Bull and Rocky are my favourites out of theose mentioned. There's a britiish film thats amazing called twenty four seven, its not really a boxing movie but its about a guy who sets up a boxing club for the lads of a rundown estate, shot in black and white its my favourite film. Caught the last bit of that undisputed the other night
