I think it has alot to do with the way he was brought along He fought nothing but fighters for a long stretch. When they should've threw him some boxers. Then they threw him in with Hopkins and its totally out of his depth. He'll never be a master boxer but he could become slicker with some head and shoulder movement and a little different footwork. But yea LOew might not be able to teach this. Either way he demolishes Abraham ala Miranda style
1. Stop dissing Jack Loew. It was Jack Loew that taught Pavlik to drive back Miranda and to box Taylor from range. And it's Jack Loew that Kelly's comfortable with; changing to a mercenarial trainer isn't going to do him any good. Plus, it's a stab in the back for Youngstown; Pavlik is a home-grown kid, and isn't the kind of guy that just runs in for the most money. 2. Rubio went in that fight to survive. He didn't throw anything. He stood on the ropes, with his hands jammed up high the whole fight. It's more or less impossible to straight KO a guy like that; the best you can do is wear him down which is what Pavlik did. Cotto wasn't doing jack to Jennings until Jennings took a swing at him, and left himself open for the left hook; when he just held his hands up Cotto was just wearing him down. It's unreasonable to expect Pavlik to destroy a guy who's just staying in his shell the whole night. 3. Pavlik did improve. He was slipping punches more, he had more power - he was hurting Rubio even through his guard - and his hand speed was reasonable.
If Pavlik doesnt improve his fight game and improve it well and soon, Abraham will defeat him and take the Middlewight titles.
Jack Loew is fine for Pavlik. He's a comfort zone for Kelly and the two work well together. Does Loew have some shitty advice from time to time? Absolutely he does. "Hit him in the balls", "Just throw punches that's how this **** Calzaghe beat him.", "You gotta double up the jab", "Double the jab", "Throw the jab more", "-disinterested- you gotta try kelly" and so on and so forth. He's not a great trainer but he's what Kelly needs. As per Kelly, the things he has can't be improved. He can't get much faster with his hands or his feet. He throws a lot of wasted punches but that's his style. He's a brawler not a boxer and changing him to be more defensive oriented may do more harm than good.
the neat thing is....when they do meet, it won't be the one and only time. these two are young still and will probably meet again at smw
Comfort Zone? Shitty advice will get you KO'ed by Mr. AA. I still believe he could do much better with a added trainer. He most definitely can improve. You just mentioned wasted punches. That is considered a style? Richardson or Roach could change that. We are not talking about a 35 year old. He is still very young and could be the next best thing next to the ATG MW. I know what you mean with comfort as loyalty and trusting, but it will get to a point that his limited trainer will no longer be able to get him past elite fighters. Again, Rubio was a 154 fighter who moved up recently.
To become one of the ATG MW, health, and of course money. Most fighters are home grown fighters, but you have to do what you have to do to accomplish what I mentioned above. It is not for **** and giggles or to have Youngstown cheer your name. It is his lively hood for him and his family. Yes, you want your city's support, but he has impove or his career will be short lived. As I mentioned in another post, Rubio is a true 154 figher. Of course he went in to survive and collect a paycheck.
