doubt that in the case of tyson but foreman said he was scared in the first frazier fight and well, you saw what happen there. fear can bring out the worst out of you or the best out you. you just have to control it.

Fear is healthy...can give you respect of what something or someone can do, and drive you to overcome it.

So long as it doesn't overpower you.

Fear is by and large biological, not psychological.

    Mostly true, IMO

However, he was just leaving prime.

At prime, he would always have beaten Vitali.

And why risk his legacy needlessly.

Foreman said he was shaking with fear when he fought Frazier the first time and that when they had the staredown at the referee instructions he would usually want the opponent to look away as a sign of weakness but that he didnt want Frazier to look down because he would of seen his knees trembling.

Tyson used to cry before fights, he was scared beforehand, he cries in this clip before the fight and talks about being nervous,

Atlas says that Tyson only fought stiffs who didnt want to be in there with him and that everytime Tyson would accept clinches it was because he was frustrated and wanted to say to the guy ok i wont hit you if you dont hit me so he could take a break and ride the thing out. He says Tyson was never anything special and all because he didnt have the character to deal with anyone with heart.

    Could be true.

On the other hand, Ol' George like to spin a colourful tale every now and then.
