I don't know why but I trust you:huh maybe because I just want this fight to happen so much. Damn you ain't even got proof... PLZZZZZ let this fight happen!!!!:happy
Why jump to LH if the fight is not there ? He could have easily come down to SM and fought JC. He knows that JC will make him look like a mug and he will do anything to avoid him.
Your post is 100% wrong. Even a boxrec warrior can see that Hopkins and Calzaghe have fought THE SAME AMOUNT OF FIGHTS OUTSIDE OF THEIR COUNTRIES!!!! Calzaghe fought once in Germany and once in Denmark. Hopkins fought once in France and once in Ecuador. Go read what happened in that fight in Ecuador. It was madness and Hopkins RIGHT afterward said he thought he wasnt going to make it out of the country alive. He was hit with debris thrown by fans (trash, BEER BOTTLES...NOT CANS...****ING BOTTLES, etc.), there was LIVE betting going on in the stands, fans were screaming that they would murder Hopkins and his corner if he won, they had soldiers armed with machine guns patrolling the stands and STILL COULDNT KEEP ORDER! And afterwards, one of the judges that didnt score the fight for the Mercado (the Ecuadorian fighter) was assaulted and beat pretty badly. NOW, do you BLAME Hopkins for saying that he wants to stay stateside for the rest of his career, where the worst that normally happens is you get booed (and he said this BEFORE he cemented his status as an ATG)? Plus, Hopkins is the bigger draw. The states are the bigger venue money and exposure wise. Joe has stated he wants to get a big fight vs a big name over here. And THEY BOTH have expressed interest in fighting each other. SO WHY THE **** SHOULDNT THIS FIGHT BE STATESIDE???? atsch God people speak of an american bias, when all that is being perpetuated in the post is the opposite. Really people, do your homework on this ****.
Alright man, props for the writeup on that bout. I could have guessed, but had no idea things got that wild. On the other hand, I saw a lot of drunk Welshmen among that 50,000 strong last night, but no machine guns and no Russian roulette going on in the background. Let's not pretend Wales is Ecuador. I'd hate to see the bout scrapped because of disputes over the venue, but Calzaghe has the right to hold out for the fight in Britain. Really, whichever place can guarantee more asses in seats, and that isn't either Philly or Cardiff, should have the inside track. DBwhatever, I'd like to thank you for the wonderful points you've touched on in this thread. I agree completely that Hopkins had to make a run for some Depends last night, that breastfeeding makes more men than life experience, and that Calzaghe is supernatural. Keep it up with those great insights. :good
Oh I wasnt comparing Wales and Ecuador. I was just explaining Hopkins mindstate on why he wants to stay in the US for the rest of his career. And honestly, who could blame him after that...and after all he has proven, he shouldnt have to. Do I sense a note of sarcasm???
For those of you who are hoping that Hopkins and Calzaghe fight, how many of you will give Calzaghe credit if he beats Bernard, and cite it as a determining factor in adding to Joe's legacy? Or, will you dismiss the win because Hopkins is an old man who is way past his prime? I highly suspect the latter. This is a pointless fight for Joe outside of the paycheque he'll receive (granted, a pretty big factor for most fighters). He will get absolutely no credit if he wins this fight. It doesn't matter how Bernard has looked in recent fights. If he loses to Joe, he's old and washed up.
i dont even wanna see hopkins try to beatt calzaghe at this point. he looked brutal in his last fight. but if he DID fight calzaghe then all the rumours about hopkins ducking ppl would be OVER.
It'll happen. If my memory serves him well, didnt he call out Joe C after the winky fight? didn't joe c say he wanted the fight last night. if the money is right, they'll be in the ring by next march or april at yankees stadium.
Hopkins will fight him and when he does we can put a 6 month avatar bet on who wins, if you are up for it.
This is bull**** and you know it. The only people that bring up Hopkins age are the ones who attempt to discredit him. If anything, Hopkins fans take his age as a sign of his greatness and longevity. If Joe beats him, it will be his biggest win and will get all the credit in the world for beating a top 30 (at the very least) ATG! Now I will ask you a question, if Bernard pulls it off...and I dont care how dirty the fight gets (because Hopkins IS GOING TO MAKE IT UGLY)...how much credit are you going to give him? Or will you say he cheated to win...he is dirty...and Joe got old? See how stupid that question sounds when its reversed?
Really JC beating a 42 year old Hopkins does nothing for Joe that he hasn't already accomplished 168, just like if Hopkins loses to JC it will not Hurt what Hopkins has Already accomplished at this point. At Hopkins age a fight with Joe is a win win situation , if he loses he still get a major pay day with no skin of his back, if he wins then he add another chapter to a legacy that should have ended 3-4 years ago. Of course guys like Hopkins , Rjj, Tarver are willing to fight JC now because he's the man at 168 and 175 and there the old Horse headed out to pasture ..
If Bernard wins, I'll give him all the credit in the world. I'll be shocked, but I won't make any excuses for Joe, since I'm not a huge, huge Calzaghe fan anyways. I like the guy and respect his talent, but I don't hold him above Hopkins in terms of likability. I very rarely make excuses after fights when a guy loses, except in extreme cases. And I absolutely guarantee you that if Joe beats Hopkins this board will be full of guys discrediting his win and calling Bernard a washed up old man. Now, you may not be one of them, but it's a total certainty that it will be a prevailing mindset. If Calzaghe does beat Hopkins and you come on hear and praise Joe and acknowledge that the fight against Bernard definitely improves his standing as an ATG, then I'll give you all the credit in the world as well. Because you'll be in the minority.
I'm sure he'll think of one!!! Maybe even use an excuse he's used before. 1) I want double the money we agreed 2) I'm retired 3) I'm going to leg it out of the division and go to Cruiserweight
