How about the stoppage on Dokes-Weaver? Then to top it off Weaver gets jobbed in the rematch. Benitez breaking his ankle against Davey Moore. Or James Green goes from totally in charge to getting cut and he just freezes. And Frank Fletcher rains punch after punch to get the stoppage!

 

If you're talking about Flukes there's the 1914 Middleweight Championship fight between George Chip and Al McCoy fight where Chip, the reigning middleweight champion was knocked out by McCoy in the first round in 1914, with one punch. McCoy lost several newspaper decisions after that fight, but didn't lose the title because it was only at risk if he was knocked out. Never made a successful title defense or did anything noteworthy in his career again.

 

I don't know if you could call Lewis' victory over McCall a fluke, but crikey did Oliver make it easy for him or what?

Chris Byrd was very fortunate against Vitali. He was getting the **** slapped out of him, and had NO chance of knocking Klitschko out in the last two rounds.

Like Sonny's Jab mentions, almost all of these examples are where a guy still had to throw a punch, still had to connect to it, his opponent still had to fail to defend it properly due to overconfidence or tiredness or whatever.

For Byrd-Vitali for example, Byrd was making an awful lot of Vitali's punches miss (something like 79%) and Vitali was exerting himself trying to get the heavy shots in, leading to him damaging his shoulder. He's not the first guy to get a shoulder injury from trying to hit Byrd, after all.

Hill winning due to Washington bashing his head on the camera, on the other hand, has nothing to do with the punches thrown or missed and it's as flukey as you can get.

Or the recent post about Norris vs Cooper, where Norris landed a punch but didn't pivot right and tore the ligaments in his knee, collapsing to the deck and unable to get up, losing TKO8.

I don't know if this one qualifies as a flukey win but I firmly believe Ray Leonard would have lost to MM Hagler if that fight was scheduled for 15 rounds. Leonard wanted the bigger ring and 12 round fight in the contract and he got them both. Most people that I've spoken to who watched that fight will agree that Hagler gave away the first rounds and lost the fight because of that.

Leonard was definitely lucky to get away with a draw against Tommy Hearns in the second fight. Hearns won that fight by a bare minimum 2 points on my scorecard. In fact, Emanuel Steward was quoted on HBO saying Lewis-Holyfield I ranks high on the robbery scale next to Leonard vs Hearns II.
