We agree that Hopkins aged in this fight, but i disagree that he looked weak or showed signs of being more limited in the Winky fight. He looked great actually. He stayed on his feet for 12 rounds, threw 650 punches, and looked incredibly fresh as the fight ended. He aged in THIS fight.
Calzaghe fought poorly and still won at least 9 rounds. He is that much better. The white guy won, sorry Nard.
If by making the best adjustments you mean Calzaghe becoming more wary of the lead right then yeah.. it was a logical adjustment.. but I wouldn't classify that as " crafty " or anything. Although Hopkins was still landing it throughout the fight.
Are you honestly going to assert that Joe did not consciously decide to sacrifice volume in favor of snap? :-(
With all do respect, **** THAT! Logical and being able to execute are two different things. I wasn't impressed by Calzaghe's theory, but rather, his execution! As someone convinced Hops would win, I never though Calzaghe would make that adjustment.
Nonsense. Rumsfeld has the ability to sound half-intelligent while spewing poison-laden bull****. His quenchless ego impresses more than the points he makes. :smoke
I assume you're sophomoric claims are not serious. I'll happily debate you on any opinion I've held and show you the error of your ways questioning my judgments (Golota withstanding). :smoke
Hear hear. I challenge you to a battle of the wits on the subject of none other than Tyson Golota. Your charge will be to artfully convince that Golota was the true winner of this bout. I will argue to the contrary and throw cups of red soda onto you as you flee in deranged dispair before having yourself committed to an institution for the criminally insane. :smoke
Well if he can't punch why did Joe have Hopkins constantly backing into the ropes and cowering in the corners for two thirds of the fight. Also Joe's punches did have more crack in them as the fight progressed. His jab stopped Nard in his tracks often and his left hooks became shorter and harder. In the in-fighting it was often Hopkins who excited a clinch with a painful grimace on his face and rubbing the back of his head and crying to the ref. Joe is a mean sucker and often got the better of the exchanges on the inside as he rabbit punched a lot. He showed he could be as dirty a fighter as Hopkins.
That in itself means nothing. Hopkins often does that. Difference was, he was less effective and was not setting traps. He ecnountered a quality foe that could adapt like he could. That was a KEY adjustment that few Hops or Calzaghe fans seem to recognize. Consicous decision.
Props man, most of the others who picked B-Hop with confidence are sticking to their guns. Good to see you take it like a man. :thumbsup
Always call it like I see it and am never too proud to admit when wrong. For the record, sue2nds deserved more credit than me. He's a more serious pre-fight analysist and is NOT a Hops fan making excuses or exploiting age. :smoke
