TFFP that is a stellar list of fighters but how does Kessler make it on your top 10 ?? This is in no way a criticism, im just curious ??
Thanks for everyone who posted, the guys that werent on my list but who were on others were class, especially .. Alexis Arguello Salvador Sanchez Eder Jofre Henry Armstrong With Ali, Louis and Robinson, its a little obvious .. Aaron Pryor as good as he was has some serious question marks regarding his cocaine abuse but at Light Welter he was a beast .. I'd also like to take a moment to mention Don Curry .. 1985/86 the p4p number 1 and without a doubt the most elegant and aesthetically beautiful boxer ive ever seen Jose Napoles, Larry Holmes and Emile Griffiths deserve a name check also
The name Paul Hodkinson stands out there. I remember the feeling for Hodkinson in the early 90s .. Too bad he cut like he did, ut he was an exciting fighter to watch .. Conteh was a class fighter but it didnt last long with him .. In my opinion Conteh liked the 'Champion's lifestyle' a bit too much
Roy Jones Jnr Muhammed Ali Lennox Lewis Ricky Hatton Naseem Hamed Mike Tyson Joe Calzaghe Chris Eubank David Haye George Foreman
Hoko is a scouser and as I was getting into boxing he was just about reaching his prime. So him, Tyson and Nigel Benn were my first favourite boxers. Everyone else on my list I've got into retrospectively (other than Hatton obviously). Conteh i got into because he's also a local lad.
Off the top of my head Nigel Benn Mike Tyson Lennox Lewis Roberto Duran Ricky Hatton Marco Antonio Barrera Mohammed Ali Naseem Hamed Michael Watson Joe Calzaghe
I'm with you on this, Kessler is definitely one of my favourite around at the moment. Love his warrior style and his 'no sh!t' attitude!
Heres a few of my favs in no particular order: Muhammad Ali Carlos Monzon Mike McCallum Prince Naseem Hamed Sugar Ray Leonard Pernell Whitaker Arturo Gatti Ricky Hatton Erik Morales Ken Buchanan Roberto Duran Shane Mosley Salvador Sanchez Israel Vasquez
1. Lennox Lewis - Versatile, great power 2. Lloyd Honeyghan - Got me interested in boxing 3. Marvin Hagler - great warrior 4. Nigel Benn - hugely entertaining 5. Evander Holyfield - early, all round power boxing technique 6. David Haye - speed, entertaining 7. Naseem Hamed - frustrating, brilliant 8. Ricky Hatton - earlier on, the balance and feints 9. Roy Jones - was the best fighter on the planet 10. Mike Tyson - compelling
my favourite not the best butmy favourite of all time 1. Willie Pep- A masterful boxer with te best footwork and movement i have ever seen. He was the best pure boxer ever and his jab was poetry. He came though adversity in the form of being the only survivor of a plane crash. He was also alikeable guy out side of the ring. I could watch Pep fighting for days on end. 2. Marvin Hagler- A no-nonsense fighter. Hagler didnt like judges and his fists were his judges. I loved his boxing skills combined with his aggresive attitude. His fight with Hearns is my favourite fight. 3. Joe Louis- The cool calm demeanor of this guy was scary. He was some fighter and had an excellant jab followed by a wicked right cross. I loved his combinations they were some of the best i have ever seen. The man is also my personal role model. 4. Muhammed Ali- The Greatest. A brillaint boxer who broke the mould. He was in many respects bigger than boxing and a great person. His skills before the exile were phenomanal but the heart he showed after the xile was truly astonishing. If i could be have the boxer and man of Ali i ould consider myself great. 5. Roberto Duran- A warrior of the highest order. He combined Latino passion with brillaint cute skills. He was a monster, he was scary and was scared of no-one. His style is brillaint with his inbuilt defence and intelligent pressure he is one of the best ever. 6. Alexis Arguello- A true gentleman in and outside of the ring. His punches were hard and accurate and is one of the est ever fighters. His fight with Pror was a classic and this was him after his prime. He should be a role model for any young boxer. 7. Julio Cesar Chavez- This guy worked with what he got and look at the result. One of the best inside fighters ever. He was pure workrate and determination. 8. Floyd Mayweather Jr- This guys skills are superb. I love his defensive technique and his movement in is younger days. He seems arrogant but he makes me laugh. I find it hard to believe he could be that much of a ***** without it being an act as he was humble as a young world champion. 9. Benny Lynch- One of the most naturally talented guys ever. He died young but was still one of the greatest British boxers. His skill combined with his power made him formiddable. A true great of British boxing and a sad but intresting story. 10. Ken Buchanan- One of the best Scottish boxers. His skills were good but his heart is what impresses me. Unlucky to run into Duran as champion and lost afew dodgy desicions but was a brilliant fighter. HM: Ray Robninson, Ray leonard, Jack Dempsey, Joe Calzaghe, Erik Morales, Ezzard Charles, Salvador Sanchez, Carlos oriz, Ismael Laguna, Arturo gatti, Bernard Hopkins, Carlos Monzon, Antonio Margarito, top 10 british 1. Benny Lynch 2. ken Buchanan 3. Joe Calzaghe 4. Ted Kid Lewis 5. Randy Turpin 6. Jimmy Wilde 7. Scott Harrsion 8. Jackie Kid Berg 9. Bob Fitzimmons 10. Chris Eubank
GPater, PBF deserves an argument for my list. What he did to Hatton in the last four rounds was up there with Toney-Jirov for boxing perfection. Cortez was wrong, Hatton was ridiculously frustrated, but the man still had to fight... and PBF was brilliant that night, whatever anyone thinks of Hatton.
PBF is brillaint. If you want a punch perfect fight of his watch the corrales fight. that is a dismatling of a fellow p4per. i would say he is also a better technician than tonewy also
I'm really not that sold on Corrales, I think he actually improved after the PBF fight. But, yeah, a masterful performance.
