Problem I would anticipate for Froch, is that when he gets into exchanges, he does not rotate his body sufficiently into his hooks, so inclose his shots take longer to get to the target, his chin comes up in the air, which we saw evidence of in the Pascal fight, so I think Benn's shorter punches would get to the target first.

I also dont think Froch going backwards, has a sharp enough jab, to stabilize Benn's bobbing/weaving style.

I always felt the best way to hit Benn was get him on the end of the jab, then find him with the right hand, Malinga, Eubank all did this in degree's, however as I say, I dont think Froch's jab is good enough on the backfoot.

Froch's best ticket would be to back Benn up, take it to him, then! I could see him having success.

That said, that is just the stylistics in the fight, who is to say whether Benn's chin would not play a factor, even if he did have success in the fight? I know people will jump on that, but lets face it, Benn was not knockoutable.

I still go for Benn but.....

True but i think Carl is a little too tough to be Ko'd in a couple of rounds.(I hope i have'nt just jinxed him lol)
Yeah a Eubank v Froch fight would be interesting too. Another thread maybe.

Interesting points man, but yeah the more i think about it the more unlikely it is that Froch would have much chance of winning.

    No.

I may well be the biggest Eubank critic on these boards, but he would have a far bigger chance of beating Froch than Benn. In fact, I'm pretty certain Eubank would win. Benn on the other hand would struggle to even hurt Froch and struggle to either outbox him or outwork him.

I mean come on, what has Benn done at 168 that actually makes people think that he had the power to take out Froch early? He did NOT have the power he did at 160, and most stoppages he did have took place in the mid-late rounds against fighters with less durability and less all-round ability than Froch. For instance, the man through EVERYTHING at Nicky Piper and still took 11 rounds to stop a fighter who, let's face it, was never that tough.

Froch could definitely win to though, he is if nothing else, consistent, he has balls of steal, stamina, chin, and good/decent power.

Its the kind of thing where by if he could back Benn up, he could pressure Benn and conceivably take him out, cause I think Benn had a tendency to wing shots when backed up, he tended to get a bit desperate, which is great if you knock the other guy out, but it can also leave you open yourself when you get wide and square looking for big punches.

Froch has as much dog in him as Benn does, only he has a better chin, although whats making me plump for Benn, is Froch's lack of defense, Benn's power.

I agree, he probably doesn't. But why would he be going backwards? Froch only goes backwards when he's tired, which may happen in the later rounds, but not before then.

To be fair though, you might say, well Jermain Taylor could not hurt 154lbs Kasim Ouma, or 147 Cory Spinks, yet he had Froch on ***** street, as did Dirrell momentarily, who is also NOT a puncher.

Because Benn would get the best of him on the inside, most probably be hitting him with clean! hooks, possibly hurting him, maybe he would look for some separation to use his height, on the backfoot?

Dirrell is a decent puncher, and the shots that tend to hurt people are shots that you don't see coming, it's the reason why Mayorga fooled everyone into thinking that he had an insane chin with his party piece, and it's why a fighter like Dirrell with his speed can hurt someone like Froch, who has a good (not brilliant) chin.

It's not just the Piper fight with Benn, the man only had like a 60% KO ratio at 168 excluding the three fights at the end of his career (off the top of my head, I could be wrong). Ever think the reason he chose to box more was because his power couldn't get him everywhere?

If Benn were to win....it would be scrappy, dirty, full of awkward clinches where Benn dives in unbalanced, and over 12 rounds where Benn outhustles Froch.

    But I foresee Froch winning.

Benn did'nt carry his power up from middleweight but he was still a fine puncher. The phrase 'educated bombs' comes to mind. One thing is for certain, he hits harder than Taylor and Dirrell.

First off the McLellan fight was a one-off and will NEVER EVER be repeated. Benn showed something super-human that night. And okay Taylor had Froch down but who else has? Kessler didn't, Pascal didn't. And at 168 how many guys did Benn put down? How many fights did he have at 168? 15 or something and he stopped 5 of them.

McCracken would tell Froch not to engage with Benn early. Froch, undisciplined as he is at times would probably stay away for a few rounds. Benn would go hell for leather early but that might be his undoing. Taylor aside, Froch has a granite chin.

Benn v Barkley and Benn v McLellan are one-offs. It's not set in stone it'd be repeated here. Collins, Malinga, Perez, Nardiello, Eubank, Wharton, McLellan, Ferreryra, Sherry, Galvano Gent, Piper. Apart from the obvious three the rest Froch wouldn't have a problem with. If he got Piper out in 11 there is no damn way he gets Froch out in 2.

Benn was just as reckless at times as Froch is now. Every power punch tastes different in a fight from Taylor to McLellan to Froch. What's not to say Benn bombs in low unguarded, Froch takes one small movement to the side or backwards wallops him with one of his tasty uppercuts and jumps all over the staggered Benn?

Froch would be very dangerous throughout and could get lucky with an uppercut but i'd fancy him to be outworked and outpunched throughout.

Agree with what your saying, its just that given Froch has a tendency to throw for the fences when he is inside, and leaves his chin in air, I cant say I dont think Benn's is capable of hurting him. Jermain Taylor throws his right hand like a bow and arrow, no disguise on it, but look what he did to Froch?

I think the reason he boxed more was because two people used his aggression against him and knocked him out.

Dont get me wrong, the only reason I slightly favour Benn, is his power, Carl's lack of defense, that said, Carl is a big strong, consistent guy, him winning would not be a shock to me, particularly with Benn's chin,

Benn on points in probably the fight of the year.
