Taylor hadn't stopped anyone in 4 years and decked him yet Nigel couldn't hurt him? Your 'aving a laugh mate! Benn was taken rounds because he fought guys keeping it tight and not trading with him early. Froch would have obliged him and would have been finished early.
I don't for one second not think that Benn would not hurt Froch. Going back to the Taylor fight. That was Carl's American debut, he went into the fight cold and looked a tad bit inexperience and naive at times. He got caught with a good shot which he should've saw coming. Benn and Taylor have different styles. Granted he should've saw that Taylor punch coming but I think he would see Benn's punches coming most of the time.
Thing is, when I think about it, I put Eubank and Froch in the same kinda category in terms of...........they are stayers, they most likely aren't going to be going anywhere, and they will generally be there to ask questions of you, that said, I just feel Eubank had an iron chin, better Boxing skills than Froch to set Benn up, where as Froch has a less than stellar defense, and a lesser chin, so even though Froch shares some of the intangibles I think could give Benn problems, his lack of defense, ability to set a man up for a big punch, is a problem for him imo. Even though I described Froch is a stayer, I fear in this fight that would change, due to his defense, Benn's power, Froch's lesser chin than Eubank.
Taylor fought superior fighters to Benn, and threw technically educated shots against a initially overrawed Froch. It happened, but I don't see Benn doing the same with his wild shots. You should probably also recognise that Taylor is a better fighter than Benn. Yeah, I said it.
I have no doubt that McCracken would advice Froch correctly to keep his distance and Froch would do that.... until he takes a bomb. When that happens he instinctively comes back firing and then plays right into Nigels hands. One of them will be going down and I just think Benn is far better equipped on the inside. Now if Froch spoiled and retreated when he gets hit, then I would actually give him a good chance to wear Benn down late but I don't see it getting that far. Trying this tactic was the standard of mostly all Benns opponents and was why he didn't have as many early KO's.
If there was one thing Pascal had success with against Froch, it was going under and coming back up with punches, particularly the left hook. The left hook is generally always there against taller opponents, simply because their head is in the air a lot more, they have a bigger target area. Now watching the opening to this clips illustrates why I said Froch could conceivably take Benn out if he could back him up and let his hands go, but as the HL rolls on, you can see why I think Benn would hurt him, cause Froch throws too wide when he gets embroiled in a fight, leaves his chin out to dry, and is wide open for the left hook, infact he gets caught with it numerous times here, with that said, If Benn didn't KO him early to mid late rounds, you would have to think Froch's chance would improve dramatically, as he seems to get stronger as the fight wears on, and on the evidence of the Taylor fight, he carries his power late. Froch´s power and chin are so overrated. He´s been staggered to differing degrees in all his fights at world class and none are huge punchers. He´s only stopped a susceptible Taylor. I´d argue he´s solid rather than top notch in both these areas.
Because he's a warrior who loves a scrap, and knew McClellan would oblige. So did the other 3 fighters I mentioned - where was this amazing KO power that people are mentioning?
I put the fact he stopped Taylor in the positive bracket, that maybe he carries power late, but having thought about what you said, what I have always felt about Taylor, maybe your right. Jermain Taylor to me, does not have a bad chin, he has poor stamina, which means he is susceptible to being hurt late in fights when his stamina is on the slide, which is why you might argue, Froch does not carry power late, he just took advantage of a susceptible fighter who's punch resistance fades as his stamina goes. I dont know, maybe I aint giving Froch enough credit there, I mean he still has to KO Taylor, food for thought though.
Of course he was spent when he fought Collins, he was spent post-McClellan, but guess what, it wasn't his power that left him, so my point still stands. And don't be silly and pretend Benn was unmotivated against Wharton, he was motivated for all his fights - he wasn't Eubank, who did have that kind of stupid, unprofessional attitude. And did you just say that Malinga wasn't slow?!
Malinga is lightning compared to Froch. Take up the motivation with Benn himself. Are you calling him a liar?
