I always end up inviting folk up for any big fights and I honestly don't know why I do it, the general public are ****ing mongos when it comes to boxing. I had a mate that kept shouting 'All Haye needs to do is stay in the centre of the ring'. When I told him that's going to a tough task when you're facing someone that much bigger than you he told me I didn't know what I was talking about! At the same time though, one of the guys who drinks in our local that my mate knows quite well came up and watched it and he turned out to be a really knowledgable guy, me and him ended up getting a chat about Sweet Pea v Chavez whilst everyone else was screaming '****IN HIT HIM!' so it was a pleasant surprise.

god, i hate it when i am round a relatives house and they are talking about khan (the only boxer they know). about prescott..."wow, i thought khan was fast but prescott is like LIGHTENING!" about michael gomez..."he's fighting that guy from the contender? he's a brilliant fighter. world class."
My mates bird got the fight and a few people went round her's, but when my other mate said he wasn't going because it was his first anniversary with his girlfriend. Her exact words were 'I can't believe your not coming, this fight is gunna be in the history books'
My mate has just said to me on MSN heavyweights aren't the most exciting to watch because they're too slow, a reasonably valid point, until he then quantifies it with "I just rewatched the Calzaghe Jones fight and it was loads more exciting." I told him to go watch the hopkins fight and then sent him some clips of Jones being KO'd.
I like being the fountain of knowledge. At times when I've been drinking I am worse than anyone else for shouting just ****ing hit him at the telly anyway.
I pick and chose who i watch boxing with these days too. Most of my mate are "part time" fans too. Ridiculous first round knockout predictions. I.E. when hatton fought mayweather, "hatton will have this **** off in 2 rounds" Nice little tenner i earned from that one!
I am in the process of trying to teach a select few of my friends a bit more about boxing but my god they are stubbon they just refuse to listen to me despite the fact I clearly know loads more then they do. Do any of you have the same problem? I really do not understand the need for people to argue about something they clearly know nothing about, it's really really annoying :fire
I think the problem with it is that you either get it or you dont. if you have to spend any longer than one night educating your friends about boxing, it is a lost cause, and you should do what the rest of us do when boxing is on. watch it alone at 4 in the morning! wouldnt have it any other way!
Well I'm lucky in that I have one mate who is in to the boxing even the domestic stuff and he has a decent enough understanding of boxing so I always watch with him. It's the rest of the idiots that peeves me and the worst bit is I try and teach them a bit about boxing give them low downs on the big fights coming up and all I ever get is a heated arguements because they are so god damn thick.
I can't even begin to calculate the number of texts I have received last night and today saying: "**** man, you were right. I didn't think Haye stood a chance in that fight but he won." Other texts (from relatives of Jim Watt obviously) berate me with: "No way Haye won that fight. He was on the backfoot all night. You just can't win a fight doing that" (As if you lot would know about winning off the backfoot, ya uneducated muppets)
