I actually don't think Ali-Young was dull. It was repetitive, but Young was fighting for the full 15 rounds. Nothing close to a slugfest, but it was still kind of entertaining, but I'm not sure we needed to see all that for 15 rounds.
I haven't watched them since they aired, but I recall Hugo Corro being tremendously boring against Valdez and Ronnie Harris, too. Dreadful fights. I also remember, as a 9 year old, being bored to tears watching Eddie Gregory and Jesse Burnett on the Ali-Spinks undercard. I wonder... were these really boring fights or did I not understand the nuances of boxing as a 9- and 10-year old? I can't bring myself to watch them again to find out.
Well, it was on before Spinks-Ali. Maybe I was excited about the Ali bout and I didn't want to sit through the Muhammad - Burnett fight.
Some of my favorite fighters have been named in this thread...Monzon, Griffith and Young. They were great fighters...and those who accuse them of being "dull" or "boring" just don't have the boxing acumen to discern the subtleties that they engaged in and performed at times.
