CT been thinking that switch southpaw and double left hook could be used today to great effect. In fact im going to try and incorporate it in.
yeh definitly like i said some of the stuff is clever as hell as for Youtubing stuff what i was going to do was film and go over a different part of his style in afew different videos like the stance/footwork movement punches blocks etc....
I'm looking forward to the videos. It'll be a real eye-opener (or at least pretty useful analysis material) for the Classic section.
Incidentally, here's Sam McVey vs. Jim Johnson: [YT]w1Du1z8R_f8[/YT] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1Du1z8R_f8
Some interesting things can be seen here. While there are a lot of clinches all but one of them are initiated by Johnson suggesting that he is employing John Ruiz style spoiling tactics. McVea swows good head movment and does not keep his upper body still. In this respect he moves much like a modern offensive fighter but he dosn't press the fight like one. Instead he tries to draw Johnson in. He seems like a bit of a chimera in this regard.
Oh, nothing. Just found them when I was looking for Corbett footage and decided to upload them. Thought you might be interested. I think I have a McGovern-Gans fight knocking about in my hard drive somewhere too...:think
I found the film very hard to see at first look. Which won is McVey the short Stocky fighter or the Taller fighter?
There is a story probably apocryphal, that Sam Langford went up to Mcvey and said, holding out his pocket watch. "My father gave me this watch ,he said keep it Sam ,keep it until you meet an uglier n****r than your self, this watch I reckon has been won by you Mr McVey". McVey's face was quoted as being one that "could scare back the rising moon"
I'm going to try to get a little padwork/sparring in with this stuff sometime this week, though I don't have a camera to record it. Any updates on your front, GPater?
CT no not any just been going over the stuff. You couldnt post some pictures up here or email me them (GPater11093@aol.com) Of Fitz boxing and them pages in the manuel as none of the places show the pictures for me.
