I find it comical for anybody to say James Toney wasn't an ATG

in his biggest fight he lost as far as Roy Jones Jr. fight goes and lost big, but it boosted Roy's career. I like his win over Prince Charles, which to me might be his best win with the Nunn upset. He beat Barkley convincinly, something Hearns could not do. The Ruiz fight? A lot of guys picked Ruiz to fight since he was the easy path to a heavyweight title. He was Hall of fame. I don't see how he is for sure an ATG fighter. He is close. Great fight with Jirov, I just don't see the how he is for sure ATG. Very close. He needed that one big huge win to show he was in the ATG class. That dominant win against another great.

Correct I stated numerous times he was his own worst enemy but he has to live with that. By the time he was fighting the likes of Peter and Rahman I wasn't even interested anymore. I only saw him fight at HW against Holy.
IMO he has ATG skills and at times showed he was an ATG fighter. Was he inconsistent about it YES but to me he showed me enough that he was an ATG

Skill can also be interpreted in the eye of the beholder. None of the men you mentioned look as good to me as Toney does. Maybe to you but not to me. That doesn't make me right or wrong that's just how I see it and I stick by it.

This is the weirdness line of thinking I know. You do realize Duran lost to many a fighter he likely should've beaten. Same with Hearns. This is true for most any professional fighter. Sometimes you lose to people you shouldn't, especially when you're not in the best shape. I would never hear you say Duran wasn't an ATG for the same reasons you're claiming Toney isn't. He was so good, he could still not take training seriously, and still beat solid people. That says a lot.

Should Duran have lost to Sims? How about Laing? Odd, he's still an ATG right?

Sims and Laing were when Duran was past his prime and fighting far above his best weight. Toney has no excuses whatsoever for his losses.

No...I started following boxing in 77 so Toney didn't obviously come into play much later.
Gamboa to me has no special talent what so ever so again your not listening to me. Just because you deem someone as talented doesn't mean I do and Vise versa. I'm entitled to my opinion as you are yours
Let's leave it at that as there's nothing more to say here.

That might be a reflection of how bad the heavyweights were not how bad James Toney was.
