i really don't like novels. this just seems like a novel based within a boxing setting (from the reviews). a journalist with the knowledge, experience and contacts like Bunce should be up there writing autobiographies and history books. no offence Bunccey, but hopefully it will pay off the mortgage and let you focus on better projects...
I did a history 11 years ago - Boxing Giants. I did the Watson book - six years ago. Great story, great read and never sold! Trust me, this is the next step - translating a fighter's life (missing out all the best bits) for money is not the way forward. Ados and keep reading.
this is the idea i get of it, you will be able to write books with the interesting and potentially libellous bits left in, as it is set in a "fictional" story with fictional characters. is this right steve? or are most of the events in "the fixer" and possible future novels staright from your imagination? i might get on amazon, couldnt find it in the shop yesterday
will have to give it a read then but i would say a couple of things... the Michael Watson tragedy is very much a domestic story. it has little wider European or global appeal IMO. giving that boxing is very much a minority sport here anyway, i personally wouldn't have thought a story like that would have sold very well. also, Bunce's profile has grown in recent years. i would say you are much more a familiar face and name than five/six years ago. I am familiar in particular from the setanta show and punditry. also with the radio london shows, you probably have a better platform to promote your work. i would like to think you are capable of a big project. a top quality biography of Tyson perhaps, who might even contribute given his personal tragedies recently. he might be in a position now to want to put the record straight, put down his life and legacy in words. even without, you are in a better position to put what you think happened without needing his total consent before publishing. Lennox Lewis, a biography of his time dominating the heavyweight division could also be a great read. bearing in mind he is a top 10 heavyweight, a history of his time at the pinnacle could become the must read of that generation in years to come. Mayweather, Pacquiao over the next few years...boxing is full of great stories and legends in need of a decent account, which could also make decent money...
