Looking forward to Sullivan Barrera's next fight he's fighting a guy with a record that matches his. Should be good. Hopefully Versus airs it!. . . I hardly follow Boxing at all anymore (Which explains my decline in post quantity.) but Barrera was sparring one of my best friends the other day Azea Augustama so I decided to check it out and man Barrera looked super sharp. He's got some awesome counter punching ability and accuracy. Really good at picking his shots and getting out of there after he gets his combinations off. He's definitely a hard worker the owner of the gym told me he's there twice a day. Still trained by Gamboa's father who is VERY knowledgeable. You should see Gamboa's dad shadow box his instructions to Barrera it's epic lol he's probably as fast as his son. Like they were going over drills with the Punch Mitts, Gamboa's dad is probably one of the best I've ever seen with the Mitts on. There's another guy Coaching Barrera too but I know very little about him but he seems to really really know his stuff as well. I know he's been around a while.

 

A lot less trivial than my last post but anyone else think Maja and Rigondeaux look a little similar in appearance? lol

Yordenis Ugás mira a su pelea del próximo viernes como una vitrina.
Aunque su nombre es conocido en ciertos círculos del boxeo, el gran público estadounidense no tiene una idea precisa sobre este welter de Santiago de Cuba, que puede ser una de las mayores sorpresas del 2012, de acuerdo con un ránking de prospectos elaborado por ESPN.
Ugás (10-0, 5KO) reconoce con una sinceridad total que no sabe nada de nada de su rival del día 13, el mexicano Esteban Almaraz (10-4, 4 KO), pero está seguro de que el Hard Rock Hotal and Casino de Las Vegas verá nacer a una estrella.
“Yo siento que mi carrera va por el camino correcto, que he ido dando pasos seguros y que todavía me falta mucho para alcanzar mi techo de calidad y fortaleza’’, apreció Ugás. “Pero mi presencia en ESPN2 es un momento óptimo para que una gran cantidad de fanáticos vean lo que traigo al boxeo’’.
El mismo Ugás es el primero en admitir que todavía no ha ganado nada ni ha vencido a nadie importante. No tiene la prensa ni la exposición de un Yuriorkis Gamboa o un Guillermo Rigondeaux, de modo que el compromiso frente a Almaraz aparece como la carta perfecta de presentación para un boxeador que desarrolló una digna carrera amateur, al punto de conquistar un bronce olímpico y oro en un campeonato del mundo.
En un torneo del orbe de categoría juvenil cayó ante el hoy establecido Amir Khan y en los torneos cubanos ganó y perdió en varias ocasiones con su compatriota Luis Franco, otro que le lleva un buen tramo de exposición y experiencia en los trajines profesionales.
“Al final de mi carrera amateur, casi me creía invencible y estuve casi cinco años en que no perdía’’, recuerda Ugás. “Desde cierto punto de vista, estoy viviendo un renacimiento. Me ha tomado un tiempo, pero ya me estoy posicionando de la mejor manera posible y cuando termine de hacerlo, no habrá quien me pare’’.
Durante meses, Ugás, que en julio cumplirá 26 años. se preparó para el combate contra Almaraz en el gimnasio de la compañía The Heavyweight Factory bajo la dirección del entrenador Eric Castaños, y entre los muchos que cruzaron guantes de sparring con él estaba el ídolo local, Ed Paredes.
Con casi toda su familia en Cuba, Ugás utiliza la soledad como estímulo.
“Mis seres queridos me impulsan a seguir luchando’’, indicó el welter que este miércoles vuela a Las Vegas. “Siempre los tengo en el corazón. Espero volver a verlos más temprano que tarde. Mis triunfos son los de ellos también’’.
