I think he's a decent fighter, he moves well & puts together his punches nicely but he seems to have a angry side to him.

I've seen him hit a lot of guys low & punch after the ref stopped the fight, Ive seen him talking smack to guys after he beat them.

He's stepping up his level of competition & I hope he does well, cruiser has to be one of the weaker divisions at the moment, he clearly has the talent to get to the top & fight for a title one day.

A eso se redujo toda la actuación en el año pasado de Guillermo Rigondeaux, quien ha tenido que hacer acopio de paciencia y energías para no perder la concentración e intentar salir airoso en un combate que se pospuso una y otra vez por causas ajenas a los boxeadores y cercanas a los males que aquejan al pugilismo en estos tiempos.
Luego de varios meses de espera y largas negociaciones, el cubano subirá este viernes al cuadrilátero del Palms Casino and Resort de Las Vegas para cruzar guantes con Rico Ramos, e intentar arrebatarle la corona de las 122 libras que otorga la Asociación Mundial del Boxeo (AMB).
El combate será transmitido a todo el país por la cadena Showtime.
“Sí, ha pasado tiempo, pero las ganas de vencer y el enfoque siguen siendo los mismos: este viernes 20 regreso de allá con el título de campeón’’, expresó Rigondeaux, de 31 años, poco antes de partir para su compromiso. “A Ramos le va a durar poco la faja. Así que la mire bien de aquí al momento de la pelea’’.
Ese sentimiento de confianza en el triunfo parecen compartirlo la mayoría de los medios de prensa y los expertos, que no han olvidado la manera en que Ramos (20-0, 11 KO) derrotó el pasado verano al japonés Akifumi Shimoda, quien al momento de ser sorprendido en el séptimo asalto por un gancho de izquierda, había ganado la mayoría de los asaltos y se encaminaba hacia una victoria sin sobresaltos.
Y aunque el récord de Rigondeaux (8-0, 6 KO) no dice mucho, lo cierto es que Ramos tampoco ha enfrentado –salvo el nipón- a rivales de mucho nivel. A pesar de todo, el campeón defensor es un oponente que saca rápido las manos y no perdonaría el más mínimo lapso del doble titular olímpico.
“A decir verdad, no he visto casi nada de las peleas de Ramos’’, agregó Rigondeaux, cuya última pelea fue un triunfo por nocaut en marzo pasado en Irlanda ante Willie Casey. “Yo no miro tanto al contrario, sino que encima del ring me voy adecuando a lo que trae. Nada de lo que pueda presentar me va a sorprender’’.
Para evitar cualquier sorpresa, Rigondeaux ha sumado más de 100 asaltos de sparrings con guerreros locales y, entre ellos, con el prometedor cubano Hayron Socarrás, quien ha asistido a una verdadera escuela en esas sesiones de entrenamiento en el gimnasio Lucky Strike en Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale.
El entrenamiento ha estado supervisado por el técnico Ismael Salas, quien ha finalizado la transición de los últimos rasgos de pugilismo amateur en Rigondeaux hacia una plenitud como profesional.
“Yo no diría eliminado todo el equipaje amateur, porque Rigo tiene unas condiciones excepcionales, sino que lo he combinado con lo mejor que puede ofrecer el boxeo profesional’’, explicó Salas. “Ahora se mueve mejor, utiliza las piernas de manera más inteligente, entra y sale al intercambio con mayor rapidez y contundencia. Todo esto se verá el viernes en la noche. Ramos es un buen boxeador y le doy mérito, porque nunca perdió la concentración ante Shimoda, pero Rigo está en otra liga’’.
Tan confiado está Rigondeaux de su éxito que ya mira al futuro oponente.
“No es un secreto que quiero a Nonito Donaire o al que sea, pero no es tan fácil como parece’’, apuntó el santiaguero. “Quiero ver quién tiene el valor de pelear conmigo, porque todos los 122 libras se me esconden. A mí, el que me busca, me encuentra’’.

So confident of its success is Rigondeaux already looking to the future opponent.
"It's no secret that I want to Nonito Donaire or whatever, but it is not as easy as it looks,''said the Santiago. "I want to see who has the courage to fight me because all I hide 122 pounds. To me, search me, find me.''

Great article. This Friday, we will be seeing the best Rigondeaux so far in the pros. Ismael Salas is a very good amateur to pro Cuban trainer ( Gamboa's success ) and like the article says he hasn't really taken away Rigo's great amateur skills but added some pro techniques. It doesn't matter if Rigo has fought only once in 9 months as he has sparred more than 100 rounds and against very tough opponents.

Another factor is that Ramos hasn't fought any great boxer so far and Shimoda ( who is lesser than Rigo ) was beating him easily until the ko. Ramos pro record is very weak, and if he is walking in the Ring thinking that Rigo is nothing special then it's going to be a very short night for him.

 

rigo needs to be more active from now on. I want to see him fight at least 2 more times after the ramos fight, if not 3. Hopefully his manager starts getting him some regular fights because it could kill his career otherwise. toshiaki Nishioka would be a great fight for rigo next. He pesents a challenge fight than ramos and it could give rigo and extra belt, plus more sway to land a possible Donaire fight.

 

I agree, Rigo needs to keep very active to make up for his very late start in pro boxing and recent inactivity. Rigo needs to forget the tune-ups and go straight for the other Champs at 122lbs like a kamikaze as time is ticking against him. Man, imagine if Rigo would had defected at age 24 or 25, wow!
