    Approximately how often do the elite MMA fighters, er, fight ?

    2 or 3 times a year sounds about right

    3 unless they are a contender then it may be 4 other wise unless injured 3 times

    Aha, thanks for replies. I'm guessing like boxing they have approx 8 weeks prep before a fight ?

    the champions fight like once per year, its sad really. GSP the WW champ hasnt fought in like 2 years

    GSP has fought 3 times in 399 days
    but has fought 3 times in the last 628 days
    so i dunno where you get that 1 time in 2 years

    Cain Velasquez was the only champ who'd taken more than a year off, and that was due to injury. GSP defended his title in December last year, then fought again in April, he was scheduled to fight again in October but pulled out due to injury. All the other champs fought at least twice in 2011. Jon Jones fought 4 times, including 3 title fights.
