Who does Guerrero have on his resume that Canelo wouldn't beat? Guerrero's resume is **** poor. Guerrero is also a one dimensional fighter. He's not a thinker. Canelo is.
Well, I don't know if it will be easier to see, it just might not be there because the angles are different, but at some point in the fight, I'd even wager multiple times, Canelo will get the opportunity.
I totally agree. I give Canelo a really good shot here. It's a very dangerous fight for Floyd so props to him for taking it on. And if he wins, even more props. I have a funny feeling he's going to surprise everyone by staying in the pocket against Canelo and looking to wear him down.
I'm not so sure about that because Canelo isn't that type of fighter. He uses distance. I suppose it could work if Floyd can get inside and stay there, but normally to be effective at that, you need to be stronger than your opponent and able to push him against the ropes. I don't think Mayweather is strong enough to stay in the pocket, and I don't think Canelo will oblige him. He'll step around or outside and fire off shots. I think Floyd's best bet is to get on his bike, and fire single shots. He has to gain Canelo's respect, early, but he can't commit to too many shots unless Canelo has nothing left late in the fight, and in that case, Floyd can get away with taking more risks. Floyd does have to land at least a few good shots on Canelo though early on. Floyd can't afford to get complacent though. Canelo has a great right cross as well as a counter left hook. His jab will be his best tool though. Floyd doesn't get hit often, but when he does, he fires back. That jab will be the tool that will coerce Floyd to fire back.
If Canelo is a distance fighter then it makes lots of sense for Mayweather to get inside. And fighting on the inside isn't just about strength (and Mayweather's strength is extremely underrated BTW), it's about leverage and experience.
I understand, but if you look at the best inside fighters throughout history, they are guys that did their best work against the ropes, where their opponent was forced to fight, like Armstrong, Lamotta, Duran, etc. When your opponent is moving, you have less of a chance to hit them and you are fighting their fight, on the outside. I understand there are guys that are great at countering inside fighters, like James Toney and even Floyd, but for Floyd to be effective at that, he would need to have a willing participant. And Canelo is not going to smother himself willingly, so if Floyd wants to fight on the inside, he'll have to chase Canelo to get there, and Canelo would get an opportunity to tee off on Floyd. I can't say that I agree about it being a good strategy. It would be daring, but I think Floyd would be best suited at utilizing his reach and boxing skills and stay on the outside.
Floyd is one of the best inside fighters in the sport today, if not the best. Oh yeah, he'll definitely be fighting on the inside. And Canelo will have to oblige if he expects to land anything with those short arms of his.
Right. Look man, watch Canelo fight. Maybe you haven't seen him fight. He doesn't smother himself. For instance, when he had Lopez against the ropes, he didn't smother himself and attempt to use his size to wear Lopez down, he waited for Lopez to throw a punch, so he could counter or he threw combinations and stepped back out. In order to fight inside, one of two things need to happen. A) Your opponent steps inside. B) You step inside of your opponent. A) is not going to happen, so that leaves B). You're saying that Floyd will willingly step inside? I understand if you are saying Floyd will throw a punch and then tie Canelo up, but to actually force the issue? That's not going to happen. So Floyd could be the greatest inside fighter of all time, but unless he's willing to take risks to get inside, he won't have the opportunity to fight inside. Canelo is not going to willingly smother himself. History has shown that Canelo does not do this.
Why does the bolded come as a shock to you? Is Canelo a great inside fighter that Floyd should be scared of?
It's a shock because it would be detrimental to Floyd. Everytime Floyd steps inside, he risks being hit with a power shot. Why would Floyd do that? And even then, Canelo will continue to create distance by stepping out or around. It just doesn't make any sense. That's not even Floyd's style. Floyd's best bet is to utilize his reach, use a lot of feints, and throw no more than one punch at a time, constantly moving. If he steps inside, he gets hit, then Canelo moves, then Floyd steps inside, gets hit, Canelo moves. If anything, Floyd needs to tie Canelo up if Floyd comes in with a shot, whether he lands it or not. Either tie up or move. But to stay inside, that's a bad idea, unless Canelo willingly smothers himself and attempts to use his size to wear Floyd down against the ropes. Then Floyd can utilize the James Toney vs Iran Barkley game plan. But in order for Floyd to be effective with that, he needs a willing participant. Canelo is not going to fight like Iran Barkley.
Guerrero hasn't beaten anyone of Canelo's level up at this weight. Who Aydin, Berto, Katsidas? I'm sorry but Canelo is on a much higher level than Guerrero.
