Wladimir Klitschko is a B level fighter and and the rest of the heavyweights are C level.

I agree, I watched fights in the 60's and 70's and so on and I have to tell you for me when I hear people talking about how great those era's were I laugh, there has always been Champions looking bad, I saw many Ali fights were I said if the right guy came around he would get beat, but the contenders were garbage. Could you imagine Chuck Wepner in the ring with Vlad or Tony Thompson for that matter. I saw him and Shavers live and did not think much of either one. The Holmes era you had some live bodys but Larry fought a lot of unknown guys with 10 to 14 fights and a load of bums, while the talented guys like Page,Dokes,Thomas,Coetzee,Tate either Ate or snorted there way out of being all that they could be and the good ones avoided fighting one another. Today I look at Vlad and say he has a lot of tools but he looks to be vulnerable also, because of some of his past loses but if we had to take a prime Ali or the other greats and put them In this era I am not so sure it would be easy for them and if we took Vlad and put him in the 70' or 80's I am not sure any of those guys could deal with him. Vlad has weakness, he does not really relax, looks stiff, but he has a great jab, powerful right hand, hook and his body shots hurt Thompson. I would not at this point call him great but I would say his offence is up there and he would be a problem for the most part for anyone. Floyd Patterson was not a problem for Liston but others fighters would have been, I think Vlad would have been, Liston was not a problem for Ali but an ordinary Cooper and Doug Jones were. Frazier was great but mainly because of Ali 1, Foreman looked like a monster unless you watch the Ali,Young and Lyle fight...I think Vlad for the most part would have made short work of Lyle, Shavers,Mac Foster,Joe Bugner,Jurgen Blin,Karl Mildenburger, Ellis, Blue Lewis, Quarry,Bonaver who were the best of the contenders of the 70's but Vlad is not perfect and can be beaten by a certain style fighter like Ali, Foreman,Holmes and the rest but is that fighter around....

    Not a chance.

He might not entertain but if his slaughtering of actual B-level guys over the years hasn't clued you in, he IS among the elite, regardless of him routinely entertaining you or not.

    Who says he isn't?

If you want to see a exciting Wladimir go watch him slaughter Mercer a few years ago.

He's changed. I'm not one to fault him for it.

Mercer had a extremely late career start and aged fairly well.

His age is irrelevant as well because I'm citing it as one of if not Wlad's best offensive showing.

Another poster on here mentioned he looked like the second coming of Joe Louis firepower wise, and he did. No one EVER did that to Ray Mercer.

To be fair fighters like Tony Tomphson crack the top 10 in most eras and get to fight for the title without being made mandatories by the WBO.

However if Wladamir Klitschko is the best heavyweight in the world and the next best really are Sam Peter and Ruslan Chagev then the division is in trouble.

Jesus, people, I love Joe Louis but he fought a lot of scrubs who couldn't clean the toilets at a modern boxing gym. A LOT OF THEM. So did Marciano, Holmes and Ali. I mean, what would you say if Wlad's next opponent was the re-incarnation of Don Cockell, Johnny Paycheck or Scott Frank? And while you are excoriating Wlad like little school girls for his last two defenses, remember that he accomplished two things that a combined 50 professional fighters could not; a) beating Ibragomov and b) KO'ing Thompson. Their combined record coming into their bouts with WK was 50-0!

I don't think the problem is talent right now but road blocks to making the best fight the best and whittle it down to one belt.
