No disrespect but I havent read any of the other posts, Im only responding to the thread title.... YES.

The HWT division has been **** for ages & I personally have never stayed up to watch ANY fight since Tyson v Lewis.

I dont waste my time when I can see real boxing talent in the lower weights.

The lower weights are still fantastic. Welterweight, Lighweight, and even going lower down are packed with fantastic fighters and potential matchups. :good Boxing is not dead, Heavyweight boxing is.

He didn't KO him. My point was no one had ever KO'd Thompson until WK. I'm not even sure he had ever been KD'd.

Good luck, without your head out of your ass, coming to the conclusion that his chin is any worse than Joe Louis'.

    It isn't.

BIG DEE HERE= Why would Klitschko be worried about Thompson as he`s damn near worthless as a heavyweight contender. the ass-hole can`t fight and showed it to the whole world. HE FOUGHT LIKE PURE POLTERY, CHICKEN-****. I`M NOT BEING NICE ABOUT IT AS HE SHOULD HAVE HIS PURSE WITHHELD FOR NOT TRYING. AS MUCH AS HE WAS GETTING PAID HE SHOULD HAVE WENT ALL OUT DO OR DIE. BUT HE DIDN`T HE TOOK THE MONEY AND LAID DOWN.

Laid down? wtf...thompson was getting hammered by right hands since round 2. he started taking a beating in the second half of the fight. u can't take those kind of power punches from a puncher like Wlad and survive unless u have an iron chin. there's a reason he has a near 90% ko rate.

Wlad abandoned the jab and right cross since Thompson's size and southpaw style negated it. He went to lead right hands, body shots, and uppercuts. That's what wore down Thompson. Additionally, im sure the clinches took something out of him. Something Lennox Lewis and Ali were masters at.

Tony fought as well as he could and i for one underestimated him prior to the fight. He proved to have a good chin, underrated defensive skill and a sneaky inside game. Wlad showed he could make adjustments mid-fight and once he did, he bagan to dominate. A lot of you need to start giving Wlad his due.

Wlad isn't as limited as many of u think either. He has been so dominant lately, he can just use the jab and right cross. Thompson forced him out of his comfort zone and u saw some versatiliy. This was evident against Peter as well. He just needs someone to bring it out of him.

Well, i saw a bit panic in his face in the beginning of the fight when Thompson put pressure on him but he learned to cope with it and i think he learned very fast that Thompson can´t hurt him. I´m really looking forward to his bout with Povetkin, if Sasha beats Sykes that is, because this test will even be a bit tougher than his last one at least for some rounds. IMO Povetkin has the offensive tools to trouble Wlad but not the defensive tools to survive a fight with him.

    @KobeIsGod: Good Post!

I still remember arguing on the school bus over whether or not a young smart mouth named Cassius Clay could beat Sonny Liston. So ya, when I compare todays heavyweights with what I've seen over the years, they suck.

By the time Cockell fought Marciano ,he had been a heavyweight for three years,a severe bout of glandular fever altered his metabolism and he was never able to shed weight effectively thereafter.

I dont think that any champion should ever be criticised for fighting a mandatory.

If you dont they take your belt and unification (which we all seem to want) just gets pushed further into the future.

You're crazy. Thompson was game until the very end of round 10. Bottom line is he went at Wlad ealry, and took hard shots to the head and body. Thompson was simply in there with a much bigger, stronger, and better fighter.

I re-watched the fight, and I think Wlad preformed well.

I don't agree that Thompson was "game until the very end", I think he was looking for a way out before that, but I do agree with this post overall. Klitschko cracked Thompson mentally then pounced. It's not Tysonesque, but it's valid, and i found it fascinating and rather chilling to watch.

The heavyweight division has been a bit of a joke since the mid-90s, where we had guys like Oliver McCall, Frank Bruno, and old George Foreman holding the titles !

The last ten years have been lamentable.

I respect all professional fighters, and all these men are solid professionals, good fighters, good boxers.
But the ring craft of the "world class" fighters is rarely distinguishable from the rank and file journeymen pros.

There are a lot of guys taking layoffs, a lot of OLD men in the heavyweight ranks, and very little action.

Thomson should not have been a mandatory in the first place this is the problem with all the different titles, there were at least five fighters ahead of him in my book. I think Peter has improved, apart from his last showing, and would love to see a rematch.
