This is a tired theme. No upside for GGG. He is smaller than Ward. Ward can hardly make 168. How come guys aren't asking if Ward is going to fight Kovalev? Is Ward, therefore, ducking Kovalev since he is not calling him out? Ward is definitely closer in size to Kovalev than he is to GGG. You Ward fans need to give this one a rest. GGG hasn't even unified the MW division and yet you are calling him to fight a much bigger, undefeated Super MW. As anyone who knows boxing knows, even if GGG were to step up in weight, to a size not his natural weight, why would he fight an undefeated champion in his first fight. You guys make no sense to me.
The only time Golovkin should be allowed in the ring with a true great like Ward is as a slow plodding sparring partner for Dre to lace for a few rounds. Golovkin is unworthy.
I have a hard time quoting from my phone, but good posting Serge! The 'Dre' and 'doe' parts even had me laughing. Humor aside though, you made some good points.
Ward already ''holds all the advantages sans power'' over Golovkin. He's bigger Faster Physically stronger More skillful Much more experienced at the higher level Much better defensively And if they get it on Ward will also have Home advantage An American referee, which he has had for every single one of his pro outings and is something which is massively advantageous for a dirty fighter like him whose style is heavily reliant on excessive holding to prevent his opponent from hitting him as much. Not to mention all the other rules transgressions Ward likes doing like slicing his opponent's faces up with ''accidental'' billy goat butts and elbows. Goiovkin is a clean fighter who doesn't feel the need cheat to ensure he gets his hand raised. And at least 1 to 2 US judges, and if Ward gets his way no doubt he and his team would try and wangle 3 if they could. Ward always wants and gets the deck heavily stacked in his favour all the time and he gets all surly and plays the victim when anyone dares criticize him for it. Why does he need all these advantages if he's so good? Why would he need them to beat a MW hype job who by the very logic he has used to duck opponents in the past doesn't even deserve a shot at him? In fact, given that Golovkin is a MW and smaller than him should be much more undeserving of a shot at him than they were. Would Ward even entertain the notion of moving up to 175 and fighting Kovalev in Russia? Not a chance. What about fighting Kovalev in Russia with a Russian referee working the fight? Or in Russia with a Russian referee and 1 or 2 Russian judges? :rofl Since the Super Six (which Ward categorically did not deserve his place in - even he admits he was very fortunate to get picked for it) Ward has turned down fights in his hometown against Bute, about whom he said was the only fight out there for the winner of the Super Six and one that was the logical next one for them Stevenson - a straight up duck if ever there was one (it was a 2 fight deal, the second of which would've taken place in Canada at 175). Stevenson called him out (directly) live on HBO whilst Ward was in the building doing commentary for his fight. Ward's response? That the lineal LHW champion who was fresh off a ''star making performance'' after scoring a spectacular one punch first round finish of the former one wasn't worthy of a shot at him. ''Stevenson doesnt have the track record to warrant a title fight. He wont get a shot until he has won some big fights. And this was not long after Ward had complained of not being able to secure meaningful fights. What a crock of absolute BS pathetic excuse. :rofl And Ward also turned down a fight against DeGale in the US too. DeGale signed the contract and Ward pulled out. During this time he has called out, fought or tried to arrange fights with MW Caleb Truax Shot drunkard Pavlik Dmitri Sartison Stanyslav Kashtanov MW Sergio Martinez Edwin Rodriguez Paul Smith MW Golovkin who in Ward's own words was ''only the #2 or #3 MW in the world at the time. Mikkell Kessler who even Ward's own trainer admits was shot "In truth we finished Kessler [in 2009] and Andre was just a puppy back then [20-0]. [Froch] still hasn't beat anybody. We finished Kessler and took the life out of him. Think about who [Kessler] fought since that time. [Besides] Froch, he hasn't had what it takes to fight anybody of any caliber, because finished him. The thing about that [rematch last Saturday], Kessler's body language made it seem like there was more happening than there really was, because he's a shot fighter. His balance is shot and his body language made [every landed punch] look worse than it was. And he still hurt Froch two or three times in that fight," --Virgil Hunter MW ''weak link'' Chavez Jr, whom Ward was desperate to fight and still singing the praises of literally minutes after Chavez had just had his ass paddled by journeyman Brian Vera. Ward even made up some BS about how there was great demand from the fans to see him and Chavez Jr. square off with each other. That is complete nonsense. Chavez Jr. was only a ''weak link'' when Froch wanted him but when Dre wants a piece of him it's a completely different story: ''Chavez Jr is not an easy fight. A lot of people say [it's easy] but that's not an easy fight. He's a big kid, he's a strong kid and he can punch." 'Chavez has got skills. I see a lot of his father in him'' lol --Andre Ward But Chavez isn't even a ''real challenge'' for Froch, a man Ward beat easily with a broken hand.'' lol 'Ward said that he doesn't blame Froch for looking for a less threatening challenge. "Froch is 36-years-old or 37 or whatever he is, he's trying to cash out. He doesn't want a real challenge (he's alluding to Froch wanting Chavez here) like [George] Groves or even myself. And that's fine, but don't bring my name up as much as you do and act like you want to fight when really you don't. Be honest with the fans," With the possible exception of Sergio and a ''shot'' Kessler, how are any of those fighters I listed more worthy than the lineal LHW champ and reigning undefeated IBF SMW champions in his own division? lol Ward has also relinquished his WBC strap during that time so he didn't have to face his mandatory challenger and ''bro'' Anthony Dirrell. And yet we're supposed to believe he and ''The Dog's'' brother Andre who Ward is even closer with were ever going to get it on back when they were supposed to fight each other? lol. 'Let's start with Ward's next fight. The June 2 date in Oakland should work, but it won't be against Bute, who faces Carl Froch on May 26. Nor will it be against Anthony Dirrell, it would seem. Dirrell, the brother of the more famous Andre Dirrell, is Ward's WBC mandatory. But Ward says he's not interested in that fight and would just vacate his belt, even though he called it "a good matchup." He claims that the TV networks won't be interested, which seems bizarre given that Showtime televised Dirrell's eliminator win over Renan St-Juste in December.' "That's a good matchup," Ward told SI's Chris Mannix when asked about facing Dirrell. "But to be perfectly honest with you I don't have a lot of interest. I consider Anthony a good fighter, a brother. But the networks won't be interested." Ward says they'd just say Kovalev was just a one-dimensional puncher if he beat him, but oddly enough he seems to think 'they' wouldn't say the same about Golovkin should he beat him and that he wouldn't get even less credit for beating Golovkin than he would for doing so against Kovalev due the Golovkin being a MW and being more unproven than Sergey. "Im not a light heavyweight. Thats what it is. I know theres been a lot of noise about [Sergey] Kovalev. Thats one fight. Thats not even a pay per view fight. Thats a premium network television fight. When I go there and we beat Kovalev, theyre going to say hes just a puncher and hes one-dimensional.'' --Andre Ward, 2014 Kovalev is ''not a pay-per-view fight, and then if I fight him and beat him, then what? --Andre Ward Theyre being pushed as the Boogey Men in their divisions. Golvokins in the middleweight division, and Stevenson and Kovalev in the light heavyweight division, said Ward, who is THE RINGs No. 2-rated fighter, pound-for-pound, behind RING 147- and 154-pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. I dont see a win over either one of those guys right now catapulting me past the Floyd Mayweathers or something like that.'' But the opponents down at 168 will? lol Golovkin has had to make sacrifices Ward can only dream of to forge a career for himself. He's had to uproot and leave his homeland and family behind, learn two new languages and adapt to completely new or alien cultures etc and he's had to travel all all over the world to get fights: Germany 18 times. Denmark and the Ukraine once a piece. Monaco 3 times. Panama twice. America 8 times. And he's even fought in his homeland Kazakhstan once too. Ward has had home advantage and US referees, often Californian ones and judges, for all of his fights with the exception of 2 of them which took place in the Caribbean and he even had American referees for both of those fights too. Ward is the one who is desperate to fight MW Golovkin but even though he holds almost every conceivable advantage over him, including inevitably having home court advatage a US ref and at leat 1 US judge, once again refuses to make any concessions and wants everything stacked in his favour just so he can beat a MW who hasn't beaten anyone. lol
Oh yeah. Sergio was coming in at like 166 on the night when he was campaigning at MW wasn't he? That's 10lbs less than what Ward was was coming in on fight night, going by his only recorded fight night weight. What a ''big bully''
