Ellerbe, Just curious, Do you believe Golovkin gives Ward any trouble? what's your opinion on how the fight plays out if it happens?
Yep, it might be due to me being a much bigger GGG fan though. I see the fight as a toss-up slightly favoring Ward. I have 2 theories, either Ward will be too quick and big for GGG, and he'll control GGG with his jab, and smother him when GGG finds his rhythm mid-long range and use some dirty tactics on the inside and outpoint GGG. The other one is GGG lands big on Ward, and stalks him from mid-long range where GGG is most effective(pretty sure GGG has a longer reach too), and stealing rounds while ward recovers. I dont see GGG knocking Ward out. Smith landed I think like 2 big shots on Ward, even though he rarely landed, I'd love to see how Ward reacts if it was GGG. Also Smith landed good body shots which is GGG's berad and butter. Of course if GGG's power does not carry over, Ward wins easy.
Has a fighter effectively smothered Golovkin before? As another poser pointed out he did a good job of not getting held onto when he hurt Murray. Honestly I don't remember a lot from Wards fights to judge him, no disrespect but theres nothing really memorable about the way he fights.
When you're mostly fighting C level fighters, they're not going to be effective at smothering you. Ward is one of the best in the game at doing so.
Agreed (although I don't think Murray is c level that's another discussion). The thing that will help Golovkin if he ever faces Ward is that he never loses his composure when he can't land a punch. He always has a belief in his abilities even if he's losing the round. If he can keep his head in the game no doubt he can land a big shot.
Compared to Ward he definitely is. I'd even say he's D level compared to Ward. The difference in skill level is huge, and not to mention Ward is bigger than Murray which means he'll be able to clinch far easier. I thought you said GGG has no chance? How do you see this fight playing out.
I don't know who I favor actually, mostly been brainwashed by everyone that thinks Ward will win easy. That being said I still favor Ward, he is almost literally the exact wrong style for Golovkin. Someone who can bully him on the inside, with good defense and chin. That being said if Ward starts to give up ground (which he'd do if he gets hit hard enough) he loses imo. Golovkin is the best fighter in the game right now on the front foot, he'd get hit with some long range jabs, but that's never shown to stop him. Golovkin's best chance is to make Ward back up by landing some big shots, then invest in the body to slow him down.
thinking critically and identifying cause and effect is a bumlokvkin****s way of making excuses in this situation.....those things arent neccessary here....its just like free agency in the nfl or mlb....it only takes on team...if ur worth it to one team then you are getting paid....and ward got paid more for fighting similar level competition that ggg did....and thats the level of comp ggg always fights im well aware of how the business side of the game works...and how network/tv works...ggg just doenst deserve any excuses for ducking this fight....he has nothing to rest on....he should be trying to make this fight instead of having excuses made....he has done nothing to warrant being an aside against a top p4p mainstay like ward
well magggo.....because he said "anyone from 154-168" which he clearly didnt mean...because ward said hed take the fight.....it was just typical posturing by ggg to act like everyone is ducking him and an excuse as to why he cant get big fights....ward/ggg is a big fight and theres plenty of money there for it.....its the risk ggg isnt willing to take yet he said he would.....k2 is too afraid a loss will damage his brand before he can get a canelo fight....i understand a canelo fight is bigger.....but ggg can get both....even after a loss to ward a ggg/canelo fight is still big and viable....hes just afraid it wont be....
Why should GGG fight the boringst fighter "Andre Ward" At the end Ward really wins after 12 rounds of running away from GGG.. so who the sh!t is this Andre Ward?? Can't he just go on fighting the leftovers from Arthur Abraham? After Paul Smith ist now time to fight Robert Stiglitz in my eyes :deal
ggg should fight ward because ward is top 3 p4p mainstay right around gggs weight class....and gggs resume is filled with nothing even close to that....because if ggg wants to be recognized as great he needs to fight another great fighter.....if he wants true respect......if we took ggg and put another skin color on him youd call him "deontay wilder" and make fun of his resume....but since its ggg and everyone wants a new hero you make excuses and praise him.....ggg needs to do something to earn respect ...until then hes just fighting b level(at best) fighters over and over
if ggg wants to be recognized as great.... if he wants true respect.... ggg needs to do something to earn respect.... Over and over, you can continue complaining but it doensn't change the fact that number 1 priority is unifying 160 (something Ward did with B/C level opposition back in his days), number 2 priority is fighting BIG names. By concentrating on these two priorities can achieve legit superstardom, and then can meet Ward on his own terms at 168.
