Yeah, Ioka will probably be a sizeable favourite for this one. Big things are expected of him after the great 2011 he had. However, I don't think Yaegashi should be overlooked.

I'd love to see his fight against Ken Agena, but I couldn't find it on YouTube. I believe both guys were floored in the fight and it certainly seems like an interesting one.

As for what I feel about Hara, I'm not totally convinced that he'll be a player at world level yet. Will be interesting to watch his progress though :good

 

It seems like 'Sugar' Yota Sato will be defending his newly acquired WBC super flyweight title against Sylvester Lopez in July. Lopez is the current holder of the prestigious WBC Silver title at the weight...

I was just reading that Kazuto Ioka, in his last two fights, got a 16.6% and 19.2% TV viewing share in Japan. They're hoping he'll top 20% in the Yaegashi fight.

 

Any news on Koki Kameda Vs Hugo Ruiz Kos:think

 

Kameda had a fracture in his left hand from his last fight, but it shouldn't keep him out for more than a month. The fight should take place in the middle of August, with Koki looking to take on Jorge Arce should he beat Ruiz.

Sonny Boy Jaro defending his WBC flyweight title in Japan against Toshiyuki Igarashi (15-1-1) in July.
Igarashi got a good win over Uicab last time out... we will see whether Jaro's massive win over Wonjongkam was a flash in the pan or not.

Great. Now Jaro will lose and we're back to the post-Oguma run of average lineal fly title holders. But Jaro is no Avelar and the division was much better back then.

Let's hope one of these gets fed to Marquez or Viloria soon, one of my favourite Divisions and would be great to see it get some stability...until the 'champ' makes that big leap of faith to super fly :-(

Here's a treat for the Hasegawa fans on here. I was searching through YouTube and I stumbled upon the below footage, featuring a green Hasegawa sparring four rounds with super flyweight great Masamori Tokuyama.

I've got few details about the footage, but it was taken whilst Tokuyama was champion and Hozumi was a little-known prospect. Due to this, I'm thinking it was between 2000-2002.

Although outgunned in this spar, Hasegawa shows signs of his potential. Amazing to think how much he improved over the years when watching it.

Fast-tracked prospect Yohei Tobe (4-0, 2KOs) will be challenging for the OPBF super flyweight title in his next fight against the reigning champion, Ryo Akaho! 24-year old Tobe already holds a win over former OPBF champion Kohei Kono, but Akaho (18-0-2, 11KOs) could - and should - prove to be his toughest test yet.

 

Just a quick update on recent results:

April 16

Akifumi Shimoda (25-3-1, 11KOs), still on the comeback trail after an embarrassing forfeiture of his WBA super bantamweight title to Rico Ramos, scored a 10th round TKO over Jose Alberto Gonzalez (15-6-1, 7KOs). Mexican journeyman Gonzalez, 25, is perhaps best known to Brit fans for holding Lee Meager to a draw over 8 rounds back in 2007. Yet, he couldn't prevent what was a routine win for the 27-year old Shimoda, who will be looking to secure another 'world' title opportunity in 2012.

Exciting welterweight contender Yoshihiro Kamegai (21-0, 18KOs) continued his winning streak by halting the outgunned Alfredo Chavez (10-4, 8KOs) inside 9 rounds of a scheduled 10. 29-year old Kamegai, ranked #11 with the WBA, has been built up slowly, but could be looking at fighting for world honours within the next 18 months.

Also on the card, rookie champions Kenichi Ogawa (8-0, 6KOs) and Yuichi Yokoyama (11-1, 10KOs), and JBC light welterweight #2 Hayato Hokazono (15-2-1, 8KOs) all scored stoppage victories.

April 15

Randy Suico (30-7-1, 25KOs) was the victim of an upset at the hands of the unheralded Takayuki Hosokawa (20-9-3, 5KOs), with Hosokawa walking away with a majority decision over 10 rounds. 32-year old Suico, a former 'world' title challenger and three-weight OPBF champion from the Philippines, was ousted by just one point on two of the judges cards. 27-year old Hosokawa, who failed in an effort for the Japanese middleweight title in 2011, won by cards of 96-95, 96-95 and 95-95.

Also on the card, fast-tracked Hirofumi Mukai (6-1-1, 1KO) returned from his challenge to the-then flyweight king Pongsaklek Wonjongkam by defeating the unknown Khunkhiri Wor Wisaruth (3-2, 1KO), stopping the overmatched Thai in the 5th round of a scheduled 8. It is worth noting that Mukai, 26, holds a clear decision win over Sonny Boy Jaro, the current ruler of the 112-pound division.
