According to sources in Mexico, there is some discussion regarding a possible unification between IBF super featherweight champion Juan Carlos Salgado (25-1-1, 16KOs) of Mexico and WBC king Takahiro Aoh (23-2-1, 10KOs) of Japan.

Aoh captured the title in November 2010 and made three defenses of the belt.

No stranger to fighting in Japan, Salgado traveled to the country in 2009 and destroyed Jorge Linares to win the WBA's version of the title. He lost the belt in his first defense against Takashi Uchiyama in 2010. He won the vacant IBF title in September 2011 with a decision win over Argenis Mendez in September 2011.

Unbeaten WBA super-featherweight champ Takashi Uchiyama (18-0, 15 KOs), Japan, will put his belt on the line against Filipino hard-punching southpaw Michael Farenas (34-3-3, 26 KOs) in Saitama (close to Tokyo), Japan, on July 16. Uchiyama, making his fifth defense, wishes to extend his KO streak to six in world title bouts since he dethroned Juan Carlos Salgado via twelfth-round dramatic stoppage in January 2010. Also announced was the WBC flyweight mandatory title bout, where newly crowned Sonny Boy Jaro (34-10-5, 24 KOs), a free-swinging Filipino, will risk his belt against Japanese ex-Olympian Toshiyuki Igarashi (15-1-1, 10 KOs) on the same bill. Jaro stunned the world by demolishing long-reigning champ Pongsaklek Wonjongkam by an unexpected sixth-round TKO in the defending titlist’s home turf Thailand. Igarashi, a former representative in Olympic Games in Athens, is a fast-punching southpaw dependent on speed and skills, while the champ Jaro is a power-puncher as he so impressively dispatched Pongsaklek. It will be a couple of confrontations between Japanese and Filipinos to be co-promoted by Watanabe and Teiken Promotions.

Shuhei Tsuchiya was today taken the full scheduled distance for the first time in a professional boxing ring, as he scored a wide unanimous decision over Indonesian boxer Heri Andriyanto. Tsuchiya (13-0, 12KOs), famed for his punching power, had won all his previous contests by stoppage with 10 of them coming within the first two rounds. However, he had to settle for a comfortable decision over eight rounds against 25-year old journeyman Andriyanto (15-15-2, 9KOs), ending his hopes of surpassing the national record of 16 consecutive knockouts.

The scores were 79-73, 79-72 and 79-72.

 

I reckon Salgado would win this one.
