Nope. Utter LIE. Is this all the Pac nuthuggers can do???? Merchant: Do you want a "Rematch"? Torres (translator): Do you want "revenge"? JMM: I'd like to, I am more than willing, I felt I won this fight. A "tie breaker" not "revenge", because it was a draw, but I felt I won the fight. Another one gets sent to school courtesy of the UliUli Scholarship!!!
Pac fans take one side, and Marquez fans take the other. Truth is, none of you guys knows ****. What we do know is that Marquez did receive a six-figure offer for a rematch, and that he fought Chris John for $30,000. Whatever theories you buy as to how that happened, Marquez absolutely and undeniably has incompetent ****ing management. There is no logical tack that will explain how Marquez fought John for the amount he did, when he clearly had established himself as a marquee fighter. It's one of the most embarrassing purses I've heard of in years, and it has **** all to do with Arum. And anyone who thinks Pacquiao needs Marquez is a zealot or a fool. Manny can pick up the phone and get a fight against anyone from 135 on down, and Marquez is now begging to be the person he dials.
Isolated from the lost opportunity for a Pacquiao rematch, it illustrates that Marquez's people have no ability to manage an elite fighter. That fight was a travesty and an insult to Marquez's greatness. He deserves better people than to get tossed into a ring like that -- in that location, against a good fighter -- for a teacher's salary. And using that clear example of incompetence as a basis for evaluating the negotiations for the Pac rematch, it makes me tend to believe that Nacho (or whoever) managed to **** something up. Someone certainly made a huge mistake with the John fight, and it doesn't take a huge leap of faith to believe that maybe someone blew the Pacquiao rematch as well.
That thinking is so narrow. Erik Morales and Bob Arum are what ended the JMM-Pav negotiations end of story. Since when in hell does a smart fighter sign after the first offer? JMM had every right to negotiate. Unfortunately for him Arum was more interested in his pockets rather than the fighters he promotes. Have you ever heard of Winky Wright? How about Bernard Hopkins? Maybe you've heard of Margarito. These are guys who at one point just like JMM had a tough time getting the money fights, they were avoided. They work hard, they win fights, heck they might even take a loss ala Winky and JMM but come back and make a point untill they get the seven figure dollar fights. JMM is now coming out and is about to get his seven figures. If there is a boxer right now in the division more deserving it's him.
Winky never got opportunities to get big fights. Hopkins didn't for a long time, either. The difference is that JMM got a big payday (Pac I) and them somehow managed to fight Chris John in hostile territory for 30k. Do you think that Wright would have fought for 30k after Mosley I, or Hopkins after Trinidad? I'm a fan of Marquez and am happy he's finally getting big fights. That doesn't change the fact that his management team failed him in a huge way. Just think of all the money he could have made if he'd gotten the Pac rematch and won. But he didn't. Instead, he made 30k to fight Chris John. He might as well have just decided to sell cars in 2005 and rest his body.
Nobody can get it thru their thick skulls......yes 750K was the biggest payday for both fighters, JMM and Pac.....but it was only 100k more than each got for their first encounter. Their first fight was good enough that each fighter had the right to demand significantly more...... Kelly Pavlik is'nt a proven PPV attraction, but you can bet your bottom dollar that he will demand a significant pay increase for fight 2 with Jermaine Taylor...... .....or are some of you guys moronic enough to think Pavlik will be ducking Jermaine Taylor if he does'nt take just 100k more than he got for his first fight with Taylor? Can we all agree that Mayweather Jr. will be ducking DLH if a contract offer is offered for just 100k more than he got for fight one and he declines???? If the Cotto-Mosely fight this saturday ends up in an epic draw that has this whole forum divided on who won, you think 100K more for each will suffice?????? I did'nt think so!:deal
None of that explains how a fighter like Marquez goes into the lion's den against a good fighter for 30k. Not even you will defend that, will you? Clearly, Marquez has incompetent management. That is the only firm conclusion I draw from any of this.
yeah. but not 1.5M which nacho and jmm were demanding... arum (jmm's promoter at that time) was so pissed at them for it that he set up erik to fight pac instead where pac got 1.25M. from then on, pac was making millions every fight. jmm missed the bus and is still waiting for his first 7-figure payday.
That scene only illuminated the contrasting approach they have in a potential rematch, and which defined the way they handled the rematch transaction. One was very willing, the other still unsure about it. And Divac, as I said, I don't think you can really blame boxing fans in seeing JMM as the one who "outpriced" himself in a rematch. Everything happened between them since that will point to that: the 30k loss to John, the 750k and 500k purses against MAB and Rocky, respectively, while Pac soared his way not only to the top of the P4P ranking but to PPV as well. The prevailing view is, Why the **** did he out himself from that career payday against Pac whom he apparently schooled to lost for 30k? ANd then his succeeding fights never exceeded that 750k that was offered against him? It is not actually funny, it is sad...
