Roy's hand speed at 18 at 139 in early 87 wasn't as fast as it was when he was a 168 fighter, not just relatively but literally

His strength to take out natural long-time lightheavyweights like Malinga, Hill and Griffin with one shot despite having the thinnest wrists of a fighter above the lighter weights I've ever seen, was scarey

How old was he in 86 come on now

Speed kills just look at the combos he hit Malinga with ..

That's God Given power ..Hell Tito had incredible power as well for such a skinny guy .Not like Roy's but exceptional ..

It was actually early 87 this clip I have and he is announced as 18. His hand speed isn't as fast as it later was (when on steroids?)

Tito punched from the foot with great body positioning and stable balance, Roy jumped and punched from the shoulder and wrist

..which is where his power came from (technique). Roy's didn't come from technique, and he had tiny wrists

And he wasn't a puncher in the amateurs

    It all points to anabolics

Roy Jones was NOT the NO.1 US amateur 156 boxer in 88! Its common knowlegde that Gerald McClellan, Frank Liles, Tim Littles and Ray McElroy were ALL ranked above him. he was the 5th best 156-pounder in USA in 88, & only got to the Olympics because Sugar Ray Leonard was part of the selection committee and liked Roy personally and his style

139 in 87 before skipping 147 for 156 (maybe he started using in 87-88 and then upped the dose in early 90s)

hahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!! OMFG!!! i can see it now. all the amateur boxers around the US are working on their personalities in hope ray leonard will like them and they can go to the olympics.

every time i log back on here i read something dumber than last time. you see, in the US they have what's called the olympic trials (which jones won) and then the box-offs to make the team. believe it or not, ray leonard doesn't get to pick the team. here's jones beating liles in the box-offs to make the olympic team. there is some truth however that the south koreans did not like jones' personality. :p

McClellan beat him in the 1988 Golden Gloves right? why was Jones Jr picked for the Trials? McClellan was also the reigning US Champion.

8 fighters go in each weight class to the US trials and they all have to qualify in previous tournaments. if you're trying to say jones didn't belong at the trials or in the olympics, that's a pretty terrible argument. it took the one of the most corrupt decisions ever to not give him a gold medal.

Jones was great, What hurts is ATG ranking is lack of top fights.
