WBO light heavyweight champion Zsolt "The Firebird" Erdei (28-0, 17 KOs) mostly outboxed Tito "El Misil" Mendoza (36-8, 28 KOs) en route to a twelve round split decision. Erdei was the quicker and technically better boxer as he chopped away at the 6'3 challenger. Mendoza's best moment came in round three when he rocked Erdei with a right hand, however Erdei was generally able to avoid Mendoza's powershots while beating Mendoza to the punch all night long. Scores: 116-112, 117-111 for Erdei, and a bizarre 117-111 for Mendoza. pathethic.
Erdei pretty much controlled that fight. Not exactly sure what th judge who gave it to Mendoza was watching:huh :nut Mendoza was a "Supa Poza," However, unless Erdei starts pursuing Hopkins or Dawson? His credibility is severely limited. That doesnt seem likely. It also means Erdei is taking Erdei out of the equation.
I believe the guy he just fought is the number 7? in the WBO, number two is Jones, number 1 is Hopkins....and they don't want to fight Erdi, in he's too fast for them.
Actually you cna not demand much, when you know you are second rated to Regiegna Hamlisch.....this is the first fight I've seen where he's not on the Hamlisch undercard. She comes on live at @10:30, then comes the tape delayed men's world championship fight of some man, after an hour of Fussball highlights, or intersting interviews with the Germany bob sled captian.....so one does not get a real swelled head when that is reality as Linial Lt. Heavy champ. Your true worth is so low that Bob sled captians are more improtant than being a Lt. Heavy champ. Odd though you never ever hear any one say, I want Erdi, cause noone does. He's too fast and accurate with his hands. Hell even Joe "Glacier" Calzughi don't want Erdi.
Do you really believe that rubbish you wrote the guy will not fight a top 10 guy in the divison and he has had a title for a couple of years, forget all these ABC boys.
Ok it's over now with pathatic Erdei after last night's fight. I am sorry for our hungarian poster here but Erdei is nothing special. And he proved that AGAIN last night. The only significant punch he landed/could land was a counter jab. Nothing more. He chased his opponent all night and could not get past his punches (mendoza's). I had mendoza winning for being way more active. I don't care Erdei landing that f*&k up jab twice a round. What a MOFO boring soab he is. Just TOO boring. :****off :gun :hi:
Russkiey, a few notes: 1. Do you accept Ring rankings? You are quoting them when you speak about Garay. Actually, according to ring rankings, Erdei is the 2nd best LHW in the world. 2. You are criticising all the opponents Erdei faced. Let's see who the other champs fought with. Dawson? Yes, he faced Adamek, but Adamek's whole reputation was based on two close fights with Briggs. That is ALL. I am 100% sure Erdei would have schooled Adamek. 3. The Adamek-Ulrich fight was by far more competitive before the stoppage than any second of the Erdei-Ulrich fight. Actually Ulrich was in top12 of fightnews when Erdei fought him. 4. Clinton Woods had fought a lot more competitive fight with Gonzalez (twice, especially last time), than Erdei. The only fight I respect him for is the 3rd fight against Glen Johnson. 5. It is unfair to say that Gonzalez fought a shot Dariusz. Then, nobody considered Erdei as a favourite, everybody predicted Gonzalez' victory. 6. The first Garay fight was a clear Erdei victory, no controversy. The second however was controversial, I agree. 7. He stopped Sahnoune in the 12th with a hurt rib.... However, I agree that the Universum is ridiculous with Blades or Santiago (still, Santiago will face Tarver as well...) or Mendoza, especially when I think about Drews' upcoming fight against Green. Personally I think there is a rematch clause in the Drews-Green contract and if Drews loses, Erdei will face Green. Watch out, it will be an easy fight for the Hungarian. He can deal with pressure fighters easily... To be frank, it was Erdei's worst performance I saw since the second Garay fight. Sad it was the only one which American fans could see.
Erdei showed a pathetically weak performance against a very stiff,slow,one-dimensional and predictable opponent who seemed to be tailor made for the Hungarian.Erdei seemed to have taken quite a handful of strong sleeping pills as he fought as being caught in slow motion. Okay, every champ has a day off now and then. However,I very much hope that his next 2-3 fights are big fights against well known names. I for my part look forward to watching Erdei vs Garay III.
But you forgot to mention that Erdei took on Ulrich only after Adamek knocked him the **** out.How could Erdei have done better against Ulrich when he went the full 12 and Adamek KO'd him in 6? Erdei is a good fighter but is very protected and consistently fights no name opponents. BTW Briggs x2 Ulrich and Dawson all rated in the top 10 at the time Adamek fought them.Big difference.
It's a matter of perspective what you think is better. Adamek fought a competitive fight with Ulrich up until he connected with that murderous right hook. On the other hand Erdei basically took Ulrich to school, landed at will and Ulrich barely could touch him all night. He didn't knock him out, he just made a fool of him and gave Ulrich a boxing lesson. I say both were quite impressive.
Competitive for the first 2 rounds! And how many rounds did Erdei win in this highly cometitve fight?I would say none IMO. He took over from round 3 on and then finished the job. But all that matters here is the fact that Erdei took him on after he got KO'd and called it a "title defense".Styles make fights. BTW my perspective is this and it's very simple.Knocking someone out in 6 rounds is a hell of a lot better than winning on points over 12.
From fightnews: Promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl: "Zsolt's chances of a big fight in America are getting better and better. The interest from the USA has never been as great as it is now." Do you believe him? US fighters: 1. Hopkins: Calzaghe or Jones, he won't fight Erdei 2. Dawson: I think he would be willing to come to Germany but I highly doubt that Universum agrees to a Dawson-Erdei fight. He'd prefer to fight Woods, so it depends if Calzaghe-Woods takes place. I guess Erdei is unknown in the US and he's not a big draw in Germany, so ZDF won't televise a fight in the US ---> not much money 3. Jones: difficult to negotiate with, won't take a fight against Erdei (not enough money) 4. Tarver: last chance? He'd probably prefer a "name" like Jonhnson III ------------------------------------------------------ Adamek - Ullrich: On my scorecard Ullrich won one round and another one was even.
Do you really want to argue about who's got a bigger ****? As I said, BOTH performances were impressive. Adamek knocked him out cold. Erdei gave him a lesson like the one Calzaghe gave to Lacy.
My guess would be Tarver. I've just posted this somewhere else: No names mentioned so far but my guess would be Tarver. I mean it makes sense. Tarver needs to step up sooner or later. He needs someone with a good resume, high position on the rankings and with a belt. I don't think he wants to fight Dawson as of yet, but Erdei seems beatable, has a belt, undefeated and he's arguably the lineal champion. Tarver has good connections with Showtime if he was able to sell the Muriqi and Santiago fights, a fight with Erdei would surely be much more interesting for them. Now given the fact that no matter what happens Erdei will retire rather sooner than later, Kohl has no reason to protect him anymore. He will let him fight in the States earn a good a amount of money without any investment. Erdei would also be happy, finally he would get his "big fight" against a real star on American TV. Then the winner might fight Dawson in a unification bout. Of course this is all just guessing, I have no proof whatsoever.
