correct! its just one of the many factors that constitutes a good fight...and technical fighters that look good strutting their stuff in the ring is not guaranteed of a win over a determined opponent. the very thing that amsty will never understand.
i honestly dont believe that, Floyd vs Baldomir the more technical fighter won, Rj vs n e 1 in his prime the more technical fighter won. Having an excellent chin is aaprt of being a good boxer, thats not an intangible. Heart, and the will 2 win are intangibles. And I dont think margo has more heart than cotto or more of a will 2 win, he just has a better chin and stamina. You level the playin field as far as chin and stamina and the better technical fighter wins this fight
What? How the **** am I wrong? Cotto clearly showed early on who was more technically skilled, but Margarito proved who was the tougher, more resilient fighter in the end, and broke Cotto. These are things you can't tell about a fighter until you've seen them, which is why I like chiming in on Classic matchups more, as we've seen what those fighters have to offer and can give full analysis.
Do you believe the whiskers were the factor here? It seemed more of an overall physical breakdown rather than not being able to take a hard shot to the head.
Are chin and stamina technical skills? I didn't say technical skills don't mean a damn thing, I just said they weren't all there is to boxing. How the hell can anyone deny this?
Although Cotto has done well in the past when being hurt, I think that Margarito's pressure was just too overwhelming. I seemed as if he just tired out Cotto both physically and mentally in the end. The same type of thing that happened with Cintron, but Cotto gave a much better account of himself, until he could no more. It was obvious, the guy had taken a beating; Im not sure what some are complaining that he quit. He had nothing left.
You can also paint too broad of brushstrokes with the word "technical". Cotto throws more textbook punches out of a more fundamentally sound stance, but his defence proved leaky once again while Margarito's was actually awkwardly effective, especially on the inside. Looking at old fights, it also hit me that Margarito's jab wasn't getting much respect. The guy's style makes it easy to label him a brawler. The truth is that there's a science to being an effective brawler also, we just easily get caught up in the aesthetically pleasing side of the game sometimes.
well not technical skills, but they arent intangibles either, some one said earlier that you cant take those intangibles away.
Either way, I didn't say technical skills don't mean anything, I simply said they don't mean everything, that other factors play in. I didn't call them intangibles, I simply said other factors play in. That is 100% true, I don't see how it's even possible to argue with it.
