I've said things in the past about Bute that I regret. This boy puts in hard work and has my admiration and respect. The boxing skills he showed convinced me he's a top player in the game and in with a serious chance of beating the very best.
What is good is that the SMW division has the attention of both the fatyank major players. Of course you are right about it being a shame if one of the top guys signs for HBO while the others fight it out on Showtime. There's still a lot of unfinished business in the division between the top 4.
We can wait to see him in the ring with the like of Ward,Froch and Kessler. And bute can't wait either!
If Showtime can't get him the S6 winner then he should go to HBO. Until now Showtime provided him 2 crappy fights...
Showtime really need to give Bute some good options promoter or not. Because right now his being played and kept for later, after the excitement will start to go down regarding the SMW division they'll bring they're new shining and exiting toy. He said he want's the best, he want's the Super Six winner, and any of the Super Six participants for a start, when he signed. They have made a step in the right direction providing a credible opponent in Johnson, after the Pavlik stun. But right now they need to keep Bute in the mix,and he needs one of the other 3 elites fighters at SMW. Kessler might not an option since he fight Stieglitz.
Showtime gives Bute 2M per fight which is pretty good. It's up to his promotor to use this dough to lure in some big names. Remember that there's plenty of other sources for revenue (gate, television rights etc.).
Showtime is not a promoter but somehow manage to create the Super Six Tournament. But can't arrange a lousy fight. Just saying, this is the type reasoning I don't like you for. A works for B1, but doesn't works for B2, even they both are from the "B" class, only slightly different
Showtime has a BIG word in who's fighting who, because if you didn't knew Mendy wasn't approved by them so the fight was out of contract. Showtime have 4 elite fighters they should've pair them up one against the other. The fact that Kessler is fighting Stieglitz means they already failed Bute once. There's only one of the gang who's getting empty promises until now, the other seems to be content. Bute didn't say: "I'm ready for the big fights next year, and Showtime gave me this opportunity" for nothing. Promises were made. Showtime is not a promotor. They supply some cash that's all. Mendy was a case of Interbox not delivering the quality they pay for. It's not that difficult to understand really.
Mendy was a mandatory fought in Roumania at a time when Showtime was not presenting it. I know, I know: haters gonna hate.
They didn't give 2M$ for the Johnson fight. That's what Bédard said when the Johnson fight was announced. Maybe the rest of the money will be added to his next fight...
They didn't? Ok. Then I suppose the deal was 6M for 3 fights and not 2M per fight. This must mean that there should be substantially more than 2M for the next fight as Magee (which was the first Showtime fight under the new contract right?) must have been cheaper than Johnson. In that case Interbox has some serious money to work with.
