He always do it this way. I think I've heard him say in an interview that he usually loses 8-9 lbs (of water) during a single training session. He actually only need to lose 5-6 lbs addition weight for the weight in. As far as "losing the weight at the last minute". It's much better (if it's done the right way) for the body to lose it a few days before the fight and put it back on right away then starving himself for weeks to show up at the scale at 168lbs. He would be very weak and he would probably have a harder time to make the weight. Case and point.... Jermain Taylor. He's been having a hard time to make weight for a while now. He comes down from 180-185 at the beginning of his training camp to ~166-168lbs on fight night. Bute weight in at 183lbs on his first day of training camp and that's probably about what his weight was just a few days ago.
Yeah, but he was saying it drives him mad losing the weight the last few days before a fight. He said he keeps saying to himself: Damn, I'm never doing this to myself ever again... ...so it's clearly a big struggle; would it not be better if he cut down a bit so that he wouldn't suffer so much at the end?
He asked her for a prediction of Bute's weight at the weight in before the fight. She said "167.6 lbs" and then laughed.
How could he "cut down"? The only way for it to be easier to make the weight would be to move up to 175lbs. If he lost weight to make 168lbs easier (walk around or have a fight night weight of like 174-175 lbs). He would have to lose muscle mass. It's not like he has a beer belly and he needs to train to take off all the fat. So he would have to lose muscles. He would also lose stamina and strength in the process. Just look at Roy Jones when he moved back down from Heavyweight. He barely lost 9-10lbs and he looked dead!
Well...the 6kgs cannot be all water, Maxime! Some fat in there for sure! So, why cannot he lose some of that fat more gradually, earlier, rather than having to do it at the last minute. At the moment he eats plenty of salads etc. So he's cutting down on carbs to lose fat! I think the problem with having to lose so much weight at the last moment is precisely that you do end up losing muscle mass too! All that muscle you've worked hard to put on, you have to take down because you couldn't cut the fat off early enough...no?
I'm not an expert in this field. I wish I could explain it to you better. There was an excellent explanation by Bute's nutritionist during a clip leading up to his fight with Bika last summer. I wish I could find it. It would help you understand. But if I remember correctly she explains that the muscles are like a sponge or a ballon if you prefer. They are squeezing as much out of the sponge as possible in a short period of time and then let it come back to it's normal state after the weight in with minimal effect to the body.
I remember that explanation! That is ideal-case theory though. You want to dehydrate without losing muscle mass, but dehydration involves not just drinking less water, but drinking less water to burn off fat to release water to sustain yourself. (Body burns fat to release water, bot just because you don't take in enough energy) 6kgs seems too much to lose without losing muscle mass as well as water/fat. But I'm no expert by any means either...
When I run, I don't eat carbs 3 days before my run. That way, when I eat carbs the day before, my body wants them desperatly and absorb them entirely. I think Bute is doing the same thing. His body is capable of reabsorb all he lost if it's done in a short time. If it's done in a long term, his body will lose muscle and he will have to train several weeks to regain it.

I heard Bute would wear Reyes gloves. Poor Joppy! That means he wants to make a clear statement with this fight. Don't miss the beginning of it.
Yeah! I guess this means it could all be over by the 6th...:scaredas: I am thinking Bute wants to get in with Taylor!:yep
Knowing Taylor was at 167 (if I'm right) the night of his fight against Taylor and knowing his stamina is already low for an elite boxer, what do think would happen against Bute, who is something like 180 in the ring, and is sometimes more active at the end of the fight than at the beginning?
