I do think he wilted quite early, that's why I have the third fight as a clearly superior perfomance by Duran. In that fight he outboxed and outsmarted De Jesus all over the board; in the second he mostly outmuscled him and obviously there seems to be a reason as to why he managed it so easily.
Roy Jones jr, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Sugar Shane Mosely, and possibly Salvador Sanchez and Aaron Pryor, with Pinklon Thomas thrown in there for good measure.
Agreedo. Duran was completely in control in the 3rd fight. He didn't even need to be overtly aggressive.
for all those, i think it depends on where you rank them. they are a really varied bunch and except for thomas, have rights to the top 100
The most "over-rated" fighters are frequently people with good record on "paper," but who did not fight top competition and/or had a lot of questionable decisions go there way. A lot of foreign fighters from the lower weights belong to this category.
I must defend the defensible S.You claim he had fast hands, and a great punch, but he was" clueless on how to cut off the ring" . Pray tell me, aside from the 32 year old Dempsey, with shot legs after a 3 year layoff, against Gene Tunney, what film SS have U seen of the prime Dempsey to substantiate,a baseless claim you make.?You are distorting history by making such a claim, based on the Tunney film when his legs were GONE, the Carpentier film,The Brennan film, the Firpo film and the Willard film.He stopped all of these men except for the master boxer Tommy Gibbons, who was never stopped in 103 bouts, and was determined to avoid being kod by not taken chances. So please S,why do you make your assertion which conflicts with the fact that Dempsey did KO 50 opponents in 80 bouts. Wouldn't you surmise that somehow Dempsey at his best was able to "cut off the ring" enough to get in range for his lethal punches ? How else did he get close enough to ko these 50 opponents ? I know some of the naysayers on ESB wonder why I constantly defend Jack Dempsey so often ? It isn't fun for me, but I feel that the Manassa Mauler, so highly regarded by the likes of great boxing men of the past, who had seen him,as Langford, Schmeling, Sharkey,Arcel,Lou Stillman, deserves to have someone to set the record straight, and why not me while I still have the time.? Cheers...
Mike Tyson, I've explained it before and it usually gets long winded because he is so loved. I love Mike Tyson more than any other fighter, let it be said and heard now.
well said. How people rank Riddick Bowe with the likes of Lewis, Tyson, Holyfield etc. is beyond me! if it were not for holyfield this guy would have no career! beat a whole bunch of NOBODYS before he fought the first Holyfield fight too!:deal
