It raises my spirits to hear mention of my beloved Knicks glory days (in my life time any way I'm only 24) in the inclusion of Anthony Mason and Charles Oakley in this thread. At the same time, it makes me want to kill myself for still being a fan.
Not enough speed and athleticism. I have given this a lot of thought previously. Mason is the only one I would train and give a chance (of course this would be years ago).
LeBron is a one in a million athlete. He would excel at any sport which requires athletic talents because his talents are off the charts. I can't imagine what his combine numbers would be for the NFL. I wonder how fast he would run the 100 meter. If he took up swimming. I mean the guy is truly a freak.
Swimming is a bad example. LeBron doesn't have the appropriate body traits to be a great swimmer. But LeBron would be an amazing wide receiver. All other sports and he would struggle because of his build and traits.
Baloney. LeBron would excel in any sport that requires raw, athletic talent. Maybe swimming is a bit too technique specific for him to fully harness his raw talents but the guy is a freak. You watch him during NBA games and he really does look like he's playing against boys. He covers so much ground. He's so strong. So explosive.
whenever i have seen former american footballers box , and there have been loads ,they all to a man have been KTFO at one time or another the second they stepped up. physiche and size does not make a world champ in boxing. america already has 500 proffesional heavyweights which is about what the rest of the world has put together. as to basketball the number of 6.8 plus heavys that have ever had solid chins that can be relied upon can be counted on 2 fingers vitali klitchko and nicolai valuev. at 6.7 akinwande was a passable fighter. its just a matter of numbers and waiting for the next great american heavy to come along and he definatley will, whoever it may be. but he will have a lot of pressure on him when he does arrive.
We have no clue who would be what. The greatest fighter ever is probably working a **** job somewhere in the world.
I don't believe that a guy who has the world at his feet by the time he's 16 and grown men swooning all over him like Lebron did would ever have the right mental makeup to become a great fighter. He'd be an exposure level KO loss waiting to happen when he found out the hard way that maybe the guy across from him had something to say about the matter.
It's the truth. The problem is we will never know but they can't get into a gym or don't know even know what boxing is.
I agree with you.. I think most of you guys are missing the point.. He doesn't mean they can be boxers now.. But, what if these athletic specimens had stepped in between the ropes instead of picking up a basketball or football????:think
Athleticism and phisical attributes only go so far. If they havnt got fight in their heart the would never make it as a boxer despite all the gifts. They would just be in boxing to make Audrey Harrison look good. The fact is most people just dont want to get punched in the face for a living no matter how big or athletic they are.
