Thai Fight is progressing with the semis happening last night (25th) in Korat in Issan that great famed hotbed of ATG Thai fighters. No big upsets here, just happy times if you’re a fan of Thai fighters kicking non Thai tail. :yep Buakaw, Singmanee, Sudsakorn & Iquezang, the Thais on the night all easily dominating their bouts. Iquezang putting on the fun performance of the night for me the way he toyed and played in a Somrak/Samart type way with the hopelessly outclassed Italian (poor fella ). On a lot of other forums and sites the last day or so people have been slamming Thai Fight a bit for the way the Thais are so easily dominating everytime and how Buakaw “is getting force fed easy fights”. Well I don’t see it that way, sure we’d all love the see Buakaw fight some more credible opponents in the swansong of his career but the opposition just ain’t out there and he’s become a Thai superstar to boot. People talk like there is this giant pool of top tier Western MT fighters out there that can hold their own with the best Thailand have to offer, but the truth is there are only a handful, with most now contracted under other banners like kickboxing promotions Glory & K-1 etc. where the paydays are better and the night less stressful not having to get fed to Thais every fight. The other issue people are missing is Thai Fight is not hardcore Muay Thai at its best, never was, never will be and was never supposed to be, you’ve got Raja and Lumpinee for that. Thai Fight is just a bit of fun where Thais “do battle” with foreigners, infront of casual Thai fans who go home happy full of national pride having been reminded they are still the topdogs in their own national sport, plain & simple. Remember for the Thai fighters who are fighting late in their careers, these fights ain’t serious, they’re fighting comparative novices, it’s their playtime, so just relax and enjoy the show……….. Good line up on the birthday card boran, lots of belts on the line. No, I still cant find a full fight card for Khem vs Yod either but it doesnt really need one that headliner is enough to get attention. How is Penek and Sam A gonna fight on the same night, at the same stadium, in the same weightclass (featherweight) and not be matched against one another? I guess thats my only complaint of this card... I will be hoping for a Somrak victory. Ps. Still havent watched the Thai fight card yet hoping to watch it later today.
That's agood point about Sam A and Penek, I didn't think about that, but after all the cancellations your right....how is that not happeneing on this card? :huh Even though I'm a Somrak fan I've always had a soft spot for Jomhod, he came to fight in Europe in my early days. (He demolished one of my trainers with leg kicks and punches inside 3 rounds!). Even though it's an intersting ATG matchup albiet well over a decade past when it would've been dynamite, it's a better match up than Somrak's last bout. The difference is though that Jomhod is looking every bit his ring age as he never really stopped fighting since his heyday, he looks really really old and gaunt for his true age, way too meny battles. By comparison somluck still looks pretty good, all that partying must have paid off! Don't get too excited about the Thai fight card, all unfortunate mismatches, but I still enjoyed it. Sudsakorn's elbow was a peach and watching This content is protected Next months finals are gonna be pretty predictable. It turns out excessive drinking and gambling is the secret to longevity.... if your Somrak. Your right about all the mismatches in the Thai Fight promotions, it really is the exception when they are matched up tough(as some of them were a couple cards ago). I look at the promotion as mostly a showcase for the Thai fighters.
I reckon the moment Buakaw hangs up his gloves for good Thai Fight folds. He's thier golden boy, without him I'm not convinced Sudsakorn, Singmanee etc have the name recognition to pull caual Thai people into watching the promrotions. It's run by an entertainment guy not a Muay Thai guy. He spotted an oppurtunity and took it, his timing was right epecially with Buakw's succes at the time. Thai Fight dies without Buakaw. Not sure where to post this one, Saenchai et Damien Alamos on Skarbowsky's recent show "Best Of Siam 2". It's kind a topical so I'll post it here. I know I'm a Thai nu thugger but to me Saenchai was playing and Almos wasn't, he did wellbut came up short. He got put on his arse in almost every round! Anyway, I'm a massive Almos fan, he's gotta be one of the best farang fighters out there, his time will come, but Saenchai is just a cut above. The truth is I don't reckon Saenchai trains that hard these days especially with his fight diary always being so crammed. I don't think he has any other motivation other than money, but it's hard to tell. I think his rep in Thailand matters to him a little but other than that I don't think he gives a ****. Hard to know what drives a fighter like that to keep winning, with Buakaw we know he wants to please all his fans and cement himself as a Thai hero, but with Saenchai it's really hard to tell what drives him on.........does he want to be GOAT?
