Nice little article here about Cunningham, after Adamek's fight: http://www.doghouseboxing.com/Chee/Chee030209.htm Steve is a class act and a great fighter. I can't wait for their rematch (if he wins against Braithwaite).
Thats comming up pretty soon, I'll be in Poland then. At least it appears it's better opposition then against some Hungarian with a bad record.
No not bad at all the problem i have is that he knows a couple of months ahead of time when he is going to fight but they always come up with a opponent in the last 2 weeks before he fights.**** poor promoter and management.
There was a replay last night of Adamek - Cunningham on the VS. network. I was watching the fight, with the constant thought of a rematch in mind. What both fighters could do differently, in a rematch to win. Cunningham made a lot of mistakes I think. Didnt use his boxing skills as much as he should have. Not enough jab, with his huge reach advantage, and allowed himself to brawl at times. Also, most of Cunninghams shots were mostly just 1 pop-shot after another, with no combinations. If he put his punches together better, he would have more success landing bigger more effective shots. If he did those things, Adamek would have a harder nights work, I think. Then again, most of the KDs that night were from Adamek counterpunching. We already know that Adamek can take Steves hardest shots, so what does Adamek really have now to fear? Adamek was a little too inactive in the fight, and I think he can crank up the pace a little bit. He lost a lot of close rounds, simply by letting himself get out worked by Cunningham. Then again, that is how Adamek fights, he doesnt throw punches, unless he is confident they have a good chance at landing. Adamek fought a pretty good fight. But what if Cunningham stuck to his game plan and was constantly pumping the jab in Adameks face? And a full extension jab, not that half ass-ed Klitschko style pawing. When he was doing that, Adamek had a harder time of getting in and connecting. Either way, what do you guys think the fighters could do more to give a harder fight for eachother, especially Adamek. He won, so it's harder to tell for him, but it is very apparent to me that Cunningham I think made more mistakes in the fight, and has more room for improvement. Whether he will or not, is a whole other story.
Yea I guess I read somewhere that he signed some kind a deal with a Hungarian somebody, or his promoter signed a deal, and thats why he was fighting all these bums for a while... not sure what the deal with that is, but there was something along the lines of that I read once on bokser. Or maybe it was that he signed with a Hungarian promoter or something? I don't remember. Either way he sucks.
Yea and Steve didn't clinch as much as he did vs Krzysiek. Adamek doesn't accept that bull**** clinching... Adamek vs Cunningham, was nonestop action....You get your occasional 1 clinch per round but thats about it. USS vs Diablo was like watching a John Ruiz fight. And it was all USS doin the huggin. If Steve would of declared war on Diablo like he did to Adamek, he would of lost even worse.
From Adameks blog, he will be going to Poland this weekend. Flight leaves tommorow out of Newark, LOT Polish. If he was leaving the next day he would be on the same flight I am going on. Damn. After the 1st Briggs fight, I missed him in Krakow by 2 hours. His flight got in 2 hours before mine did. Now I miss him again on the same flight by one day. Crap.
Is there any talk of Adamek taking a fight in Poland this year? missed his fight in Newark due to unforeseen circumstances wouldnt mind flying over to see the boy in action infront of his home crowd
There are talks of a fight in Poland once in a while against maybe Golota.. but those are rumors that he says have no truth behind him. If Adamek keeps winning, and Wlodarczyk beats Fragomenni, I see a potential bout between them 2 in Poland someday. But nothing is planned in the near future, I don't think.
Whats the status of Adamek - Hopkins? i heard Hopkins will try to get the rematch against Calzaghe first, but if he can't (which is very likely), he will try hard to hook up with Adamek. I see this as a potential match of the summer and would actually prefer slighty if Adamek fights Hopkins first, before a rematch with Cunningham is made, maybe even in December. In my view, the latter is a riskier fight. One thing is for sure: Adamek should not be as conservative and measured against Hopkins, as he (rightly) was against Banks in the first 4-5 rounds.
