Mayweather was the number1 WW and the P4P king and not once did Cotto ever challenge Mayweather or say that he wanted the fight.

The second DLH fight fell through because DLH, despite losing the 1st fight, and making more money from a fight then he's evermade still tried to dominate the negotiations. Mayweather let DLH have whatever he wanted to make the first fight. Gloves, ring size, he moved up to DLH's weight class, DLH got 70% of the money. Floyd said **** that the second time and the negotiations fell through.

Cotto has always been classy and never called out a fighter, that said, he was top 1 or 2 at WW at the time and should have a been fighter that was at the top of class and very popular a Mayweather- Cotto fight would have been huge!

Quickly, I mean really? Who has ever made more of a percentage than DLH, no one, so for him to make an assumption that he wanted more or even half was unprecedented and still if he took 70 - 30 he would have made more money fighting him than anyone at the time, and even his last two fights, DLH got paid off, so thats BS excuse on Mayweather behalf I dont believe that.

Its a 50/50 fight if there ever was one...

Neither fighter can make the Money they would make facing eachother elsewhere... they are the two best fighters in the World, 2 huge stars... both very marketable , both very egotisical... This fight is 50/50... it needs to be, any ***** ***** saying Floyd deserves more is out of their mind, same goes for any ******* ignorantly claiming Pac deserves more... its a 50/50 fight

Is this thread telling me that Mayweather vs. Hatton didn't reach a million buys? While Pac picked a disgraced loosing top rank guy out of nowhere in Margo, and did more than FMJ/Hatton? I know that Pac / Hatton is lower, but i always thought FMJ's numbers on Hatton is so much above than Pac's (2k8, worst US economy of the decade).

I think they're pretty even. Even though PBF has been inactive before, he still has some considerable PPV draws.

    The way I see it:

Fighter A : Fights seldom but draws high
Fighter B : Fights frequently but draws not comparatively high

50/50 is fine for me here. Give Pac a few more fights that generate high PPVs and you get 60/40 for Pac (given PBF is still inactive).

Pac would draw more per fight if he only fought once a year.

Regardless it's a stupid debate and most people believe 50/50 is fair.

I think you've over-simplified the situation and for the most part are not comparing apples with apples.

    1. Comparing simply on timelines will skew the results, and is not used when dissecting media viewership numbers. The correct method would be to work out the mean value of the numbers over a set period of time. If fighter A generates 5 million over 4 fights, it would be illogical to assume he'd make the same amount the following year over 2 fights. By averaging the numbers you can project more accurately how much they could earn if they fought less or more compared to the initial benchmark.

    2. Just because they are both are PPV draws it doesn't mean people don't come to watch the opponent. So you would need to break down the PPV numbers of each opponent and factor that into the equation. For example you disregarded the De La Hoya fights because he was the main draw card, yet a a disparity in numbers exist between DLH-May (2.4mil) and say Forbes-DLH (didn't crack a million) as an important variable exists i.e. the opponent's draw.

    3. PPV numbers can be used to work out broad revenue, but it can't be solely relied on for return on investment. Boxing promotions will receive a negotiated amount of money for fighting on that network PPV, so depending on what their percentage is can skew profitability. For example
    Fighter A: Invest $5, revenue $7, minus $1 cut to promotion = $1 profit
    Fighter B: Invest $2, revenue $4, minus $0.50 cut to promotion = $1.50 promotion.

Even though fighter A makes more money, the media outlet sees fighter b as a better investment. Revenue means nothing if you don't make a good profit.

If you want to strickly compare PPV numbers, thats fine. But from a network's point of view there are many more variables when considering actual monetary value and who holds the negotiating power.

    **** PPV sales.

Pac vs Floyd ---> 50/50 split.

Pac vs Floyd II (rematch) ---> 50/50 split.

We feel you, however if the ts just based this argument to the last 3 fights of floyd and pacquiao which is post dela hoya, wherein they stole the throne from dlh as the ppv king, and have it averaged. It will be clearer that they are slightly equal now, considering the fact that a name in clottey cannot ring a bell.

Unlike before that we have no doubt that may is the bigger draw. Since the fight between the two is more legitimate now, it is reasonable enough to say that 50/50 is a fair share. If anything, imo pac has the right to demand a little more, but hoping he would not.

May i just ask, why you guys arguing about the share, well in fact the negotiations went wrong when may wanted a drug testing and once approved to his cut off, he will go for vacation, of course these are just news which is more or less a gossip. If you are closer to may and you know something we don't know. Im begging you to spread it. And yes averaging it since 2007 will make it soundly for may, but 2011 is fast approaching and pac said he will fight again. PAc is the new face of boxing we have to deal with it. If may still wants the throne he just simply have to fight pac or just shut up and retire for good.

That is the best thing about it.

All the time they bring up PPV numbers its only American numbers.

Im sitting here thinking how many Asian household buy PBF fights.

Then im thinking how buy Pac fights. Then im sure you could get a more accurate account what really is going on.

The problem is Mayweather never fought Cotto, Clottey or Margarito so we will never know what a Mayweather fight against a credible welterweight would have reached.

I think a Pac-Mosley fight would have been around the same level.
