While I think Cotto probably wouldn't stop him, I totally agree with the second sentence. As much as the losses to Margo and Pac hurt Cotto mentally, they didn't really affect his boxing style. On the other hand, Margarito knows how to fight one way, and that's coming forward and throwing non-stop. If his punch resistance is significally diminished, that would result in disaster for Margo. And I think that's the case, Margarito has eaten a LOT of leather throughout his career, more than Cotto has, and the punches he was hit with in both the Cotto and Mosley fights have probably damaged his ability to take a punch and his body in general. I may be wrong, but that is what I think.
If Steward can teach Cotto how to tie up on the inside, it's an easy decision win or late stoppage perhaps for Cotto. Without that ability, Margarito will cause problems, but i don't think he has the stamina and relentless pressuring ability or chin that he had in their first fight. So i'd still go for Cotto UD, but a close UD.
Correct! Marg's punch resistance is half of what won him the fight against Cotto and the other half is non-stop throwing. Cotto was winning the early rounds and I feel he could outbox Margarito so it's a toss up fight. Unless Margarito goes with a different style and fights more defensively(don't see it happening), Cotto may actually beat him in a rematch.
I kinda wanna see this fight, even though I'm not sure Margo deserves it. I'd say a close point decision for Cotto at 154. His last few fights have shown that Cotto doesn't fair well against a volume puncher and needs time to set himself before getting his shots off. That being said, Margo has shown his chin isn't the same since the first Cotto fight and prob doesn't have the same bravery without bricks in his hands. On a seperate note, how do people think the weight would affect the fight? Cotto looked good at 154 but Margo is a huuge WW and seems pretty natural at 154. Would the weight class give Margo an advantage at all?
