Yes, because age always tells the story in boxing. Nothing else, such as being viciously knocked out, matters.
Its interesting that Fury has only fought 1 in that top 10, Wilder 2 and AJ 4. Not that it tells you how AJ would do against either Fury or Wilder
Prior to ring updating their rankings AJ had beaten 5 of the "Ring magazine top 10" the same amount as Fury, Wilder, Povetkin and Whyte combined.
Believe me i have been watching boxing for over 50 years and am not locked into the past .I rate certain modern day fighters really highly but this crop of heavyweights are a class below the ones i listed
For the most part, the list is okay but it does have some flaws as people on the thread have pointed out. Ortiz and Ruiz should be swapped, Ortiz put up a valiant effort against Wilder both times but none of Ortiz's wins are on the level of Ruiz's win over AJ. Joyce should be swapped with Rivas, Rivas had a decent effort against Whyte but he hasn't had a resume to be top 10 yet imo he's on the border of it though I have him in the top 15 for sure. Joyce just had an amazing win over DDD and just has a better resume than Rivas does at this point. Having Usyk at 10 is reasonable he only has 2 wins at heavy against Witherspoon and Chisora who arent exactly top 10 material, their decent wins but not enough to put you in the top 5.
The heavyweight ranks are normally poor. Now and again you get certain eras where you have a good few names, quality. But a lot of the time it's chock full of **** poor contender s.
Povetkin has been on there the longest, however, he was removed for a few months in 2016, and this only counts consecutive weeks.
Lol, the dude's only loss was winning two rounds in a world championship fight, then having to retire due to an injured knee, I have no idea why he called him overrated, he didn't legitimately lose a fight in his career, he was fine and would have been world a title holder if not for the injury.
(c) Fury 1. Joshua 2. Wilder 3. Ruiz 4. Usyk 5. Povetkin 6. Hunter 7. Whyte 8. Joyce 9. Parker 10. Ortiz When ranking Usyk his wins over Hunter, Bellew and Breidis should be considered because although they weren’t at HW all three had notable wins in the division. I see people ranking Hunter ahead of him but Uysk beat Hunter and who would be predicting a different outcome if they fought again at HW?
What makes you think he would beat Martin? I had martin edging both the first two rounds granted in close scoring timid opening rounds. On first view i had Hunter winning 7- 5 and when i watched it back I had Hunter winning 8-4. Majority of this forum also thought Hunter deserved to win the fight.
I had Povetkin 7-5 over Hunter in a truly hard fight to score. Draw was acceptable result. Povetkin just knocked out Whyte the number 2 heavy contender going in, whom was on an excellent run in the division, in his backyard. If wins like that don’t move you up nothing should.
